Long last year. Th Louisiana Kingfish exhibited black eye for several days. after this mysterious encounter but His assailant was never identified, al-| though several persons: proudly d]S played bruised knuckles. ¥ The plaque, about the size of a small dinner plate, will be dedicat- ed formally with appropriate cere- monies during the evening to be known as Huey Long Night. The actual unveiling will be performed by Budd Hudick, a member of the club, and known, professionally as Budd of the. radio team of Stoopnagel and Budd. The field of the bronze contains ® 8 a likeness of the Kingfish with a cubit arm dexter clinched fist menacingly poised beneath the chin. Above this is a wash basin with two fawcets in accole fashion while on the base is the inscription “Publico Consilio Pro Re in Cam- era Gesta.” On the reverse side of the medal- lion, with date of encounter af- fixed, is the translation—"By public acclaim for a deed accom- plish in private.” The night Senator Long was “ganged,” as he put it, he was the guest of a party headed by Jack Curley, the promoter. His version was: “Some one struck me from behind, and upon my turning, three men covered me. I saw one strike .at. my. head:.with-ya knife or something sharp and I ducked just so that it grazed my forehead. One man was blocking the door but I stumbled through him and managed to wiggle clear.” — e, NOTICE TO CREDITORS All persons naving bona fide claims against the late Leigh Hack- ley Smith will please present the' same with vouchers and proofs to the undersigned at Juneau, before September 1st, 1934. UNITED STATES, CUBA ARRANGING TRADE TREATIES ‘Barriers to—.Bt Knocked Down. on Both Sides, Mutual Advantage WASHINGTON, Aug. 23. — The Government is apparently going to surrender a substantial chunk of revenue to Cuba in an effort to help American farms and factories to gain the export markets in the Cuban islands. All indications are the United States would slash duties on Cuban sugar by about nineteen million dollars in a reciprocal trade treaty which will be signed and pro- claimed tomorrow. If the trade scheme works out, this money and more will come back as increased | income for American farmers and industry. It is understood the United States makes concessions to Cuban to- bacco and pineapple growers, win- ter vegetables and fruits, also li- quors, in return for which Cuba knocks down her tariff barrier for scores of American agriculturai manufactured products - GASBOAT E” SOLD BY, AL WEATHERS WHO WILL BUILD LARGER BOAT SOON Al Weathers has disposed of his gasboat “Ace” to Al Johanson, of Juneau.
