Freight for Juneau The Victoria had 312 tons of freight for Juneau, which required part of 11 hours to unload, besides 12,000 feet of lumber brought up ernment Dock yesterday afternoon !from Wrangell. at 3:30 o'clock. Lumber, brought up from Wrangell was unloaded on the Government Dock and half an hour later the steamer moved over \fo the new quarters of the Alaska Steamship Company at the Pacific Coast Dock. The Victoria, first steamer from the south to dock here for eight days, came as a “mercy ship” to Southeast Alaska and was loaded to the guards. It brought quan- tities of fresh produce in addition to a capacity cargo of ‘general freight, more than a week’s first class mail, express and passengers. Tt ‘was the largest for the Southeast Alaska route. Twen- ty-five hundred tons were packed <o tightly in the hold and on deck that there was scarcely room for: another pound. One reason for the delay in reaching Juneau was the layover of 30 hours in Ketchikan neces- sary for the unloading of 950 tons of cargo billed for that pert. The Victoria also spent between seven and eight hours each in Peters- burg and Wrangell. Off for Skagway The Victoria left this morning at 2:30 o'clock, stopping to unload freight at Douglas and proceeding | on to Skagway, from which point she will turn south, calling here !
