The Vets gave McAlister glmost perfect support, making but one error. Jack Schmitz, hurling for ‘the Paps, was wild, and his support was |even wilder. He walked five men and hit another, and his team- mates evened the balance by con- | tributing seven errors. Diringer Hits Hcmer Jack Diringer, Vet lead-off man, hit the second ball pitched for a homerun, which was an indica- tion of what came later. Before the inning was history two more /runs had been added. The Vets added three more in the Second land in the third, without a sem- blance of a hit, chalked up five more. The Moose scored their first run in the second and added run num- {ber two in the third frame. Neith- er side tallied in the fourth and fifth. Darkness settled down at the end of the fifth and ended the tragedy. i How It Happened | Diringer smacked a home run on the second pitched ball. Junge sin- gled and went to second when Schmitz soaked Nowell. Snow walk- ed to fill the bases and Junge ¢: home when Stollard drew a pass. Nowell tallied on McLaughlin's ny‘? to centerfield. | The Vets added three more in the second. Grahag doubled, went to third while Diringer was being touched out at third and scored on Junge's second single. McAlis- ter walked and he and Junge ad- vanced a bag on a wild pitch. Now- ell walked to fill the sacks. An- other wild pitch scored both Now- ell and Junge. | The Moose scored one in their half of the same frame. J .Schmitz walked, stole second and third and ! went home when Junge missed| Warter’s grounder. { Vets Add Five In the third, the Moose infield cracked wide open and seven er-, rors and no hits resulted in five! runs for the Legion. Both McLaugh- | lin and Mathison were easy outs| to start off with, and then Gra- ham drew a pass. He should have been forced out at second, but Warter dropped the ball. Where- upon Schmitz took Diringer's o | stolen bases, McAlister 1, J. Schmitz ;grounder and tried to. -catch him | at second, but the ball sailed to centerfield as Graham scored and Diringer landed on third. Junge gained life at first as Grummett threw wide, while Diringer came home. Fraser tried to nab Ken at second, but Warter let the ball get by him to center field and Junge got to third. McAlister walked and stole second. Nowell dumped one down to Warter who fumbled it be- fore throwing to first. Umpire Bo- telho called Ev' safe while Junge scored and McAlister went to third. Ward came home as Fraser start- | ed arguing with the umpire behind the plate and was asleep on Mac- | Spadden’s throw to get McAlister coming for home. Meanwhile Now- ell had gone to second, and con- tinued a minute later as Fraser threw high to third. Snow was out, ending the farce. The Moose came back with one in the third on a single by BIll Schmitz, and a nice double by| Grummett. | After that the game went faster, aided by a double play turned in| by the Moose in the fifth, and the! fans went home for aspirin.
