The love scenes between Miss Francis and the romantic Asther are something to talk about, and the ever to be relied upon Huston contributes another magnificent per- formanee as the husband. The pic- | ture is also benefited by the work in supporting roles of Phillips Holmes, Eugene Pallette, C. Henry ‘Gordon, Louise Closser Haie and Jean Parker. MEETING OF HOSPITAL GUILD IS POSTPONED UNTIL MONDAY, MAY 14 The regular meeting ‘of the Hos- pital Guild, scheduled for next Mon- day afternoon, May 7, has been post- is the screen presentation of the | famous novel by James Gould Cou- zens, “The Last Ad#m,” best-seller | and recent Book-of-the-Month se- lection. It is reported as the most | powerful vehicle the popular phil- osopher-comedian has had on the talking screen. | The story concerns a physician | in a small town who, in addition | to ministering to the health of the | community, acts as its unofficial| father confessor. None of the town | secrets escapes him. He knows the | inner life of every one of its in-| habitants. But it is not as a gossip that he finds himself interested in | the private lives of the village. He | is a mellow gentleman to whom | everyone's reactions are an inter- | esting bit of human document. The film does not present the story of one character. Like ‘‘State ! Fair,” the last of the Roger screen plays, it deals with many charac-! ters, each typical of its kind. Vera Allen, star of the New York | stage, has the leading feminine role opposite Rogers. She was specially | engaged for this role, and advance reports of her performance have been so favorable that she is con- | sidered destined for a brilliant ca- | reer in pictures. Others in the cast | are Marian Nixon, Howard Lally, | Berton Churchill, Louise Dresser,| Andy Devine, Rochelle Hudson, | Tempe Pigott, Elizabeth Patterson, Nora Cecil, Ralph Morgan, Patsy O'Byrne, Veda Buckland, Effie Ells- ler and Helen Freeman. The screen adaptation of the Couzens novel was made by the well known novelist and playwright, Paul Green, Pulitzer Prize winner of several seasons ago, who was; also responsible for the adaptation | poned until 2 o'clock on the after- ?;e P;;:,lee:mngs Biate. Suk foel | noon of Monday, May 14, it was an- : | nounced today. (11§ {7 TR S 3 By MRS. ALEXANDER GEORGE N oday.
