Sherwood's smashing Broad- way stage hit of last season. In the new film, which comes to- morrow to the Capitol Theatre, Barrymore plays the role of the impulsive and irresistible Haps- burg archduke, Rudolf, who re- turns to Vienna from exile to re- capture the memory of Kkisses that lingered long after the royalreign | toppled and the glory of the glam- orous court life faded. This role, created on the stage by Alfred Lunt, with Lynn Fon- tanne in the feminine lead, is said |to match Barrymore's individual | talents and personality with flaw- less fit. It follows his acclaim in “Grand Hotel,” “Rasputin and the Empress,” “Bill of Divorcement” jand “Topaze.” | Diana Wynward is the leading |lady, filling the Fontanne role of | Elena, the Viennese beauty who | marries an eminent psychiatrist in {an effort to forget the romance | that swept her off her feet in the gay court days. She developed a real findness for the character, Fran- kie, in “Her Man,” and Millle in the picture of the same name. “Both girls,” she said, “were definite characters whom I felt T had to study and understand thor- oughly. There was a richness about them that is quite lacking in sweet ingenue roles. My lucky star was still with me when I was given a Chance to do “Elsa” in “A Woman of Experience.” Here was a woman with personality and character! A woman with a past, disappointed in love, dissil- lusioned by men, who could still fall in love. This role was one that T thought, was really worth working for!” The story briefly is this: Elsa finds hersclf the center of a poli- tical Intrigue in Vienna. Under government orders she must pre- tend an attachment with a man she dislikes in order to obtain val- uable information which he alone can impart. At the same time a young officer falls in love with her and she with him. The con- flict between her real love and her pretended love, linked up with her rather shady past, furnishes the starring in I material for this absorbing picture. ' For example if the total expense of operation and maintenance, plus depreciation, for the taxable year amounted to $800, and the car was used three- fourths of the time for business and the balance of the time for pleasure, the allowable dediction for Federal income-tax purposes would be $600. If a law which imposes a tax on gasoline shows that the tax !s imposed on the consumer and not on the dealer, the consumer maj deduct as a tax, Federal income-tax of the payment of such taxes in taxpayer must have kept records of the payment of huch taxes in order that the deduction may be substantiated as is required by the law and the rcgulations. A taxpayer may ascertain whether the gasoline tax imposed| by a State is deductible by the consumer or by the dealer by ad-| dressing and inquiry to the col-, lector of internal revenue for his district. In any case where the gasoline purchased is used for business pur- poses the tax may be added to the cost of the gasoline and deducted as e business expense; but where that is done, the gasoline tax | should be deducted separately un- der the item of taxes.
