SELECTED SHORTS /|OF THE MOVIES ISCENE OF DRAMA Capitol Screen Reveals Joys and Sorrows of Movieland A powerfully dramatic picture which gives you a closeup of life behind the scenes in the movie colony is “Hollywood Speaks,” a Columbia picture, which is the feature now at the Capitol. This is no flimsy plot serving only as a vehicle for a group of Hollywood scenes. It is a heavy drama set against the ever inter- esting tapestry of movie studios, Hollywood parties, big movie di- rectors, the parasites of the colony and beautiful girls. Genevieve Tobin, the former Broadway stage actress who gave such a splendid performance re- cently in Maurice Chevalier's “One Hour With You,” tops it in “Hol- lywood Speaks,” with a brilliant jacting characterization of a screen struck girl who rises from obscur- ity to fame on the -screen, and then sacrifices all her glory for the sake of the young man she loves. This young man, incidentally, is played by Pat O'Brien, the fast PREVIEW—1 A. M. TONIGHT “AIR MAIL” OUR NEW PRICES Adults Students . Alleged Raids The alleged raids by the Lomen company upon native herds in the Seward Peninsula has been given much publicity. According ‘to the testimony of witnesses at the rein- deer hearings in Washington dur- ing the early part of 1931, there were four attempted or frustrated raids by employees of the Lomen company within a period of three years, between 1927 and 1930. The {accumulated evidence from prev- jous investigations and that made during the past summer, accord- ing to the field representatives, shows that this is a closed inci- dent. It is evident that the elle- gations were based on hearsay, and in any event, adjustments in satisfaction of their claim were made several years ago under agreement with the natives. Re- cent inquiry by the investigators disclosed that there is now no dis- satisfaction over the settlement. In the opinion of the investi- gators, there were some suspicious circumstances which might have led to the conclusion that an em- ployee at that time of the Lomen company had been over-active in rounding up reindeer on ranges ad- joining the Lomen range in the Teller unit. Their inquiry disclos- ed that charges emanated from the native president of the Cape Reindeer Company of Wales.
