The election of a new foreman to direct the fighting of fires was one of the most important of sev- eral measures enacted at the regular meeting of the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department last night. L. W. Kilburn was unanimously elected to fill the position which had become vacant by lapsation and he was em- powered to appoint his own assist~ ants . The ordering of four “jump- in" suits for the truck drivers and foremen, to enable them to get out at night properly equipped in the shortest possible time, was author- ized. Several suggestions for tak- ing better care of the equipment and ways and means for doing bet- ter work, were favorably considered. Also the Department is to be rep- resented on the maple courts this intcr. This was decided when the cn voted to sponsor a team, e their members, and with )2 vy of good material available they should put out a winner. Jim- mie Manning was elected to take charge of the basketball situation. A report of the recent dinner and social evening held by the firemen was rendered which showed a fine; profit, due the liberal donations and | patronage of everyone. A vote of thanks is extended to the committee which had charge of the affair and to all who participated. A communication of ;commenda- tion accompanied by a box of fine cigars from Father Menager, con- cluded the meeting which was well attended. - ., ——— MRS.
