The first of the comedy sequenc- es of “The Nervous Wreck” lets you in on the secret ‘of the comedy. When Harrison Ford, the excessive pill-taker from Pittsburgh arrives in his flivver on the Western ranch, the fun begins. After meeting Ho- bart Bosworth, who is seen as the rancher, and .his daughter, played by Phyllis Haver, and taking a few pllls and telling them how sick he is and that he can’t possibly last long, he sits down to a regular meal and eats half a dozen ears of sweetcorn, a dozen ‘biscuits dipped in honey and enough beef and po- tatoes to satisfy Porthos. This is a starter. — | “THE TELEPHONE GIRL” | IS NOW AT COLISEUM | B“'I’he Telephone Girl,” Para- mount’s new: screen picture opened at' the Coliseum last night and is on for final showing tonight. As Matthew Standish, candidate for Governor and party to an indis- creet ” vacation ®some years before, ‘Warner Baxter makes good. Evi- dently Mr. Baxter delved deeply into this character before attempt- ing to portray it on the sereen be- cause his delineation marks him as one of the cinema’s first leading men. Holbrook Blinn, Madge Bel- lamy, May ' Allison ‘and Lawrence Gray are others who can’t be over- lobked when distributing praise. «Blinn is the political boss who faces ruin if Baxter -should be seated .and his son-in-law, Hale Hamilton, defeated. Miss Allison enacts the woman in the case with infinite artistry while Larry Gray’s smiling visage lights up many a serious scene. But it is to Madge Bellamy that most of the dramatic | moments are given. As the tele- phone girl vho loves Blinn’s son, inadvertently \finds a dramatic cli- max upon her and discovers her- self to be the \entral character in | a game of politils.
