The pitching and hitting of Erickson for the Coast Guardsmen featured the game, He held the Navy sluggers score- less ‘for six frames and collected three safeties himself, a home run, a double and a single in four trips to the pan. He had better sup- port than Hunter, heaving for the Mappers, but he was effective in the pinches while Hunter faltered some. Hunter held the Snohomish score- less the first three innings. He had a nice assortment of curves and excellent control. Greber at first, Pawliaoski in center and Reeves in left turned in a fine game of ball. Here's the Sad Story lows: Hall started a single to right and immediately pilfered sec- ond. Roberts picked three bad ones to swing at. Rand singled to center scoring Hall. Hindle hit to the infield forcing Rand at sec- ond. Erickson took advantage of a nice fat one that Piicher Hunter handed up to him and smacked the old horsehide in the direction of the Fair Building, two blocks away.. The Air Squadron was sent after the ball and a few minutes later reported they had found it. In the meantime Erickson had made a circuit of the bases send-. ing Hindle in ahead of him. Gaich Retan attempts to steal third, the catcher high-powers a throw to third, the ball went through Tay- lor's hands, hitting him on the dome, bounding in the direction of short and Retan continued on home. Roberts fouled out to Tay- lor and Rand gounded out Burda to Greber. 1 run, 2 hits. Boatswain Glick replaces Hunter in the box - seventh. Hindle started the final round with a base on balls and stole second. This man Erickson again hit safely, planting a single in right field, his third hit in four trips to the plante. Hindle went to third, and Erickson tip- toed to second on the next ball pitched. Gaich was out on a fly ito Pawliaoski and Hindle scored. Dobyns put his foot in the bucket kept up the fireworks with a single to left. Dobyns got a free ticket to first. Lance sacrificed the pair another station and the bases were loaded to capacity. Retan sent o Dewey Chaser at Hunter and was retired at first. “Twas a Glorisus fourth”—3 runs, 4 hits. Three in the Fifth Hall opened the fifth with a hold-over from the fourth on a“ .single through short and went to| second on a wild pitch. Roberts for the third time decided he would rest between innings. Rand hit to the box, the ball glancing off Hunter's hand and rolling wide. A wild pitch advanced everybody an | other notch. Reeves got on through Hindle’s failure to field his grounder. This produced a conference of the wise heads, and the Snohomish changed pilots in mid-stream, Erickson taking the wheel on the mound and Retan being disrated to first base. Play being resumed Reed laid one down to short and Reeves was forced at second, but Greber on the play came tearing home and gently pressed his spikes against the rub- ber.
