Bureau of Mines, Juneau for some time conducting classes in first aid work for mi: |and others interested, is this week instructing men at the Alaska Ju- neau Boarding house in the Chance Basin, in the use of breathing apparatus. The were to be held on alternate eve- nings at the boarding house and ithe City Hall, but because of the| large number of men who turned | out for the classes it will be neces- sary to give them ‘at the mine boarding house the remainder of | the week, it was announced this morning. Through these classes a crew of men will be trained which can be summoned in case of an accident or disaster at the mine. Classes at the City Hall for min- ers, firemen, or others who care to avajl themselves of this opportunity will begin next week, March 11, at 7 o'clock in the evening, it was made known at the Bureau of Mines office. Mr. Miller has been giving these classes for some time and when he finishes in Juneau he will go to Douglas Island, to give training in first aid and protection measures to the men employed in the Alas- ka Juneau foundary. From there he will visit other mining communi- Jties where there are a sufficient number of employees who would be interested. He will remain in Southeast Alaska about three weeks more. — e AT ST. ANN'S HOSPITAL A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs., Walter Lofgren at St. Ann's Hospital yesterday. The boy weigh- ed 6% pounds and both Mrs. Lof- gren and babe are doing well. Mrs. L. H. Metzgar who has a slight case of influenza, was taken to the hospital yesterday after- noon.
