Although there was a total of nine errors made, wonderful sup- port was given during the pitch- ors’ battle between Manning, Vet- and Pete Schmitz, lodge-| Some pretty exhibitions of ng of grounders and flies, and some e lent headwork fig- ured in the game. And when the boys with the big bats finally did crash through into the scoring column the fire- works was interesting, the spec- | tators were up on their toes, and a hot argument or two took place to raise the interest to top pitch. It was one hour and forty min- utes of entertainment, and those who squinted into the sun from the cash seats during that time were well repaid for their long wait. 2 One, Two, Three P. Schmitz, in the box for the Paps, pitched an even three balls in the first inning, and each ball got its man, To give exact fig- ures, each pitcher heaved to only 27 men each in eight innings of ball. Manning had the edge over his opponent, for he struck out nine men while Schmitz fanned but four. Schmitz struck one player, but neither heaver issued a single pass to first. So it went on through the game. The Vets collected one hit in the second inning, another in the sixth and one more in the seventh, while the Moose got only one bingle until the ninth, that single coming In the sixth. Vets Score Twice Grummett, first up in the ninth, was given hope at first when B. Schmitz, out in the left garden, muffed his fly, but the hope was extinguished, for Grummett tried to make it a two-base hit, hesi- tated half way, and then con-l tinued, but with not enough speed to beat the throw-in, and was tag- ged out a foot off the sack. Nello, playing for Hanna, hit a hard drive over the left fielder’s head, the ball rolling into a2 near- by garage as Nello ran the bases, halting on third. He scored when T. Keaton hit into right field. Thomas flew out to shortstop. B. Keaton hit down third base line and the ball did not stop for Kearny, who was unable to pull himself together, the ball rolling between his feet. This left B. Keaton on firet, while his brother went to second on the play. Re- turning to the ball—the elusive sphere rolled on through Vale's legs also, and on this play the Keaton = brothers advanced one| sack each. ball finally came 10 rest in the hands of B. Schmitz| who added 'to -the - consternation by throwing wild to third. T. Keaton scored on the play and B. Keaton reposed safely on third @s the dust raised. Manning fouled out to Barragar for the third down. Moose Make Bid Like a true Moose, F. Schmitz went to bat with blood in his eye and hit a grounder to B. Kea- ton, who, got tangled up, llr‘ Sohmitz being safe at first. Kearny singled through the box, Mr. Schmitz going to third, and @ moment later Kearny pilfered second. On a fielders’ choice, T. LEGION TO HANDLE PROGRAM OF JULY 4 COMMITTEES DECIDE That the American Leglon be given authority to outline the en- tire Fourth of July program with the exception of the entertain- ment for the yachts in the Capi- tal-to-Capital race, was the deci- sion made last night by a joint committee meeting held in the Dugout. Members of the regular Legion committee met with the Yacht Race and Fourth of July commit- tees of the Chamber of Commerce, and it was decided the Legion- naires would handle the arrange- ments. The committee will work, however, in conjunction with the Yacht Race group so the entire program for the day will coincide and proceed smoothly. Tomorrow evening the Legion committee will gather in the Dugout and outline a detailed pro- gram for the big ce‘ebration, ac- cording to W. M. N -n, Post Commander and chairman of the committee. This year’s celebra- tion will be bigger and better than ever, and those in charge will en- deavor to put on something new, Mr. Myren said. .o 'LET Almquist Press Your Suit. We call ana ceuver.
