The locals won 28 to 18. With Juneau in the lead from start to finish as a result of the keen playing ability, the game, however, was not on ice until the fourth quarter drew to .a close with Douglas eight or ten points to the rear. Try as they would, the Islanders could not upset the Hilltoppers, and the Juneau boys showed up in the veteran class more than they have at any time this sea- son. When the visitors came back in the second half to do or die, and came within #x points of a tie, the Juneau boys kept their heads, playing a bit harder, and once more pulled away from their rivals, The oulutnmlmg ‘fenturc M the contest was the checking of the Hilltoppers. Heretofore the Ju- neau High boys have not shown up any too well on the guarding, but last night there was a guard on every Douglas man’s trail and few easy shots were permitted the Islanders. Using the J. Orme-Livie-F. Orme combination, which worked well against the Ketchikan team last week, the Juneau boys' offense was good. The boys’ game start- ed off the same way in which the girls’ contest did, with scor- ing infrequent. A short field goal by Livie.and a long one by F Orme put the Juneau quintet in the lead, 4 to 0, at quarter time. Savikko went in for Carlson early in the second quarter, and later Carlson replaced Johnson at guard and the latter went in as forward in place of Savikko. Ju- neau ran away from her rivals in the second quarter. Livie con- verted, Burke followed with a long field goal. Cashen convertel shortly after, J. Orme sank a short onme, and repeated after Johnson converted for Douglas, Fox converted for Douglas’ third free throw count of the period. J. Orme put a long one through the hoop as the quarter drew to a close and Martin was left free for a shont one which was good. Ju- neau 13, Douglas 6. Locals had things their way again in the last period, when Douglas threw the ball away time and again ,on long- shot attemp:is from the middle of the floor. Livie came forward to sink two short shots in succession while Martin put the ‘ball through the hoop from the 17-foot line. J. Orme batted a short shot into the basket on a bounce off the rin and F. Orme added to the score with a short field goal. Neilson was sent in to replace Livie, whr went in at forward for J. Orme the latter taking to the bench.
