Young and old are keyed up for the festive celebration, the great gift giving period of the year, for tomor- row is Christmas, the Day the world observes it in various ways. At this Yuletide season, doors’ swing open and candles gleam with the bright flame of Humanity’s cheer- fulness. Peace prevails, as it should be, and - troubles of life are forgotten, drowned out by the Merry Christmas tidings. Old friendships are renewed and scattered families are again brought together under the one roof, reunited. Youth and Old Age meet beneath holly boughs and all is well in the world. Grouches are forgotten, there is no room for such thinigs at this season of the year. Tonight, not only the young, but the older ones, are on the anxious list, expectant of the joyful happenings the night ‘will .bring and the morning reveal. The children, many of whom will receive a share of gifts tonight, will retire, but restlessness will undoubt- edly make them toss on their pillows, waiting for the seemingly long hours when Santa Claus will have made his “ visit, left the gifts and journeyed on; restless while trees are being decor- ated by loving hands in adjoining rooms. Then perhaps tired “peepers” will close\ only to open agam---won~ “ALL THE NEWS ALL THE TIME” JUNEAU 'ALASKA, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24, 1927. dering if it is “time.” And when the “time” does arrive, the patter of feet will be heard; the stockings, hung from “the mantle piece; or figar the chimrey; the decorated trees, will be searched; exclamations of surprise, joy, of thanks will be heard, and the real Christmas Day will be here, in fact. Christmas Day is becoming more and more, one for the children as the older generation ponders over the real PAGES NINE TO SIXTEEN meaning, the birth of The Christ Child and the spiritual interpretation. But it is Christmas, the day of merriment, even for the older genera- tion, as father, mother, uncle and aunt, enjoy the opening of gifts, and the working of the toys. Father and moth- er are perhaps as much interested as little son or little daughter, in the movements of toy trains, etc., or the cry of “Mamma” from the doll and the opening and shutting of the eyés. ... Father .and mother gleam with prlde at each other when their gifts to cach other are exchanged and due appreciation is expressed. It’s wonderful, the spirit of giving, the giving of useful gifts, and the pleasurable surprise, is equally as great, : Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be celebrated with parties, and the delicious serving of the great na- tional bird, or its equivalent, will pre- dominate in the spirit of Yuletide to- morrow. Alaska has the open hand and open heart spirit, and strangers will know it is Christmas, even if they are far from home, for greetings will be ex- changed in that honest way, charac- teristic of the real and true Alaskan. They will be made to feel they belong to the Great Brotherhood of Man. And Christmas Eve is followed by Christmas Day --- the whole world is akin, at this Joytide of the Year.
