FAIL NEW YORK, Sept. 14. — Jack Dempsey may fail to regain his much-cherished heavyweight crown in his coming battle with Gene Tunney just as Sullivan, Corbett, Fitzsimmons, Jeffries and Willard Jeffries were each squatted atip the throne. Suinvan and Jeffries were kayo- fered five kmockouts and Corbett three during their careers. Jeff- ries accounted for two of Fitz'’s and as many of “Gentleman Jim’s.” Willard was kayoed twice. Fol- lowing his three-round defeat against Dempsey at Toledo, Jess staged a short-lived comeback by kayoing Floyd Johnson four years later. Two months after the tri- umph, however, Willard was put to sleep by Luis Firpo in an elimination bout to find an op- ponent for Dempsey. . Babe Ruth, club: bing one homer in each game, brought bis total to 62 and led the attack that definitely assured the Yankees their second straigh: championship. It was the fifth time in seven years since the Yankee club has been under the agement of Miller Huggins that it has won the American League crown. The Yank’ steamroller has flattened all opposition since almost from the very start of the season this year.
