By GEORGE McMANUS RINTER MICHIGAN STUDENT SCORES » snant-to the ca pastry, sandwic Stirs Civic Pride of St. Louis America’s skyline is being beau- tified by artistic cnmmelcml build- ings. The latest triumph is the new eight million dollar structure erect- cd by the Southwestern Bell Tele- phone company at 8. Louis. It was the aim to construct a building that would serve material needs, provide attractive office space and at the same time be a source of pride to citizens by rea- son of its beauty. Designed on the set back principle, the building covers a total floor space of 965,000 square feet, reaching a grand mass of 11,967,000 cubic feet. Like a “NUMBER, pLeast! GEE BAERY AY it pyramid of monumental grandeur, the building rises sheer 357 feet above the street. To carry out the very imposing design, the architects, Mauran, Russel & Crowell in colaboraton with Mr. I. R. Timlin, the tele- phone company’s engineer and as- sociate architect, decided upon stone from the quarries of the In- diana Limestone company because of its known adaptability to artis- tic treatment, in a structure of this type, where cost as well as perma- nence was an importsnt factor on account of the strictly commercial nature of the project.
