District Engineer P. E. Oxley of the state highway depart- ment appeared before the com- mercial club in Grangeville Wed- nesday to confer with them on the prospect of the county shar- ing in the expense of surfacing | 12 miles of the North and Sotth |highway on the Whitebird hill. State funds are now only avail- able for repair work and. this money comes from the gasoline tax. Chairman N. B. Pettibone of the county commissioners was present att®ie meeting and will place the matter before the board at an early date. What action they will take is not known at this time. Some believe however that their action will be favorable. SUPREME COURT AFFIRMS. Judgment of $6000 for Earl 8. Barton, Moscow, against the estate of Wallace Scott, Grange- ville capitalist, has been affirm- ed by the state supreme court. Barton sued for $36,000, which he alleged was due him for effecting a financial settie- ment with Mr. Scott’s toster son, Warren Scott. A district court jury, in May, 1921, returned a verdict of $6000 in favor of Barton. Executors of the estate appealed. With costs and inter- est, Barton will receive approxi- mately $7500. FAIR GOES BEHIND. Word coming from Grange- ville is to the effect that the Idaho County Fair and Border Days will have a deficit of $800 for this year. Last year the de- ficit was $3800. The receipts from admissions and from other }| sources was about $5000, about $100 less than last year. NEW GRADER. : A fine new grader was ship- ped to Cottonwood this week by the state of Idaho and will be used to grade and maintain the state highway in this section.
