Press Claim fer Shortage. “The methods employed by Mr. Baskett in his speculations have been uncovered by our ex- aming committee and are now quite fully known to our direct- ors who deem it of no public im- portance to go into the matter at this time. If recovery is made, and I have every reason to believe that the bank has legal claims, the stockholders, both new and old, will benefit to that extent. On behalf of the management, I wish to express our apprecia- tion for the patience evidenced by the public in general and by our patrons in particular in the delay we have experienced in getting a statement of the facts to them, and it is with deep gratification that I am able to report that no officer or other employe of the bank was in any way implicated. In fact, no one else has been under suspicion but, in justice to all concerned, the accounts of all officers and checked and proven correct.” Statement by Chas, H. Chace. Upon being interviewed by the Tribune Mr. Chace, who has been one of the bank’s heaviest stockholders since its organiza- tion eleven years ago, said: “It is with reluctance that I am dis- posing of my interest in the bank. I have been interested in the Lewiston country financially and otherwise for the past twenty years. I have always had faith in the country and in the future of Lewiston, but I have concluded that the best inter- ests of the bank will be served by disposing of my stock to local people.
