Only a portion of the furniture could be saved as that on the second floor could not be reached on account of the head- way the fire had made before sufficient help arrived. The building is known as the J; “Coldren Home,” and has been considered one of the finest in the valley for many years. The property is out of the city limits and for this reason the fire department could not assist in fighting it. A number, who assisted in re- moving the furniture, stated that it would have been an easy matter to have extinguished the but the only thing available was a garden hose, The house and furniture was only partly covered by insur- ance. Several members of the fire department of Lewiston res- ponded to the call for help and it was through their assistance that a big portion of the furni- ture was saved. Mr. Parker, who had been home only a few days from the hospital where he underwent a serious operation a short time ago, was taken to the home of his brother, E, L. Parker, in Lewiston.
