Some of the women have records that run well into the fifties and hundreds of gar- ments and as the number of women werkers for the Red Cross and other organizations was legion it will be seen what a tremendous contribution they have made in the aggregate. It was these knitted goods that brought warmth and com- fort to many a lonely soldier and sailor lad. In addition to providing warmth against the cold, the wind and the-sleet in the unfinished barracks, on the cantonment field, out on the storm swept waters and on the battlefield these garments also brought a message of affection from the women to the wearers. At times there were those who were inclined to make light of the knitting done by the women. But none who realized the comfort found in the gar- ments or who talked with the boys who received them ever had‘ any such notions remain- ing. i Not only were they distribut- ed through the Red Cross and the like but mothers, sisters, wives and sweethearts knitted these socks, helments, sweaters and scarfs for those in whom they had a direct interest. This | mighty total certainly’ helped to | bring comfort to the fighting} men and more. For they were messages direct from the homes and did much to sustain the morale of the fighters and were who were left behind that the fighting forces were not forgot- ten. HOW ABOUT YOU? Buy some Victory bonds be- fore Saturday, May 10 the last day of the drive. You wiil do it as soon as you stop to think how} happy and pleased you are that the soldiers are coming home in- stead of more going over there. The money you invest in these bonds is to help bring them back. It is highly impor- tant that this be done. There is no end of sacrifice you would not make to provide money to send more soldiers in order to keep the enemy from coming to this country. So put a little more money than you intended into Victory fered to any people on earth.
