Stickney, President of the Union Stock-Yards National Bank, died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning from pneumonia. Mr Stick- ney was born in faverhill, Mass., fifty-two years ago, and, after serving as bookkeeper ina bank in the Kast for some years, came to ‘Chicago in 1835. His first employment here was with the late John Wright, agricultural implement maker on the North Side, and about 1880 he became general bookkeeper for the private banking- house of J. W. Drexel & Co. Aftera few years spent with this firm, he obtained a position in the banking-house of G. C. Smith & Co., which broke up liter. When the Stock-Yards National Bank was organized in 1868, with S. M. Niekerzon, as President, Mr. Stickney became Cashier. ‘This office he filled neceptably up to the spring of Isv8, when. on the death of Mancel Talcott, he yee clected President, serving 23 such until ‘his ‘The deceased was married about twelve years ago to Miss Elizabeth Hummond, of Massachu- setts, but leaves no children.’ His mother, brother, and sister reside at his old home. Ho Was considered by all associated with him in business. as u safe and conservative man. In peivate ife he hud muny friends, his tastes be- chietly fiterary, musfeal, and artistic. Ho wus for n long time ‘prominently counected with the Philharmonic Society, and had one of the finest collections of engravings in the city. Mr, Stickney had been confined to his room fora couple of weeks, and had undergone a painful surgical operation, from the eltects of which ho was recovering ‘when he took cold on Sunday fast. The symptoms ot pneumonia were muani- fested, and. in spite of every care, he died as stated. ‘The.funeral will be held to-morrow from St. James’ Episcopal Church, at which Mr, Stickney was aregular attendant.
