Tr a 8 " d oll S GRATER TI —coMPeETNG, A Schedule of the Chicago Club’s Games for Next Season. The League-Book Out—George Wright te Play in Woreester—Nofes of the Game, Efc. SPALDING’S GUIDE. The Oficial Base-Ball Gutde for 1850, published by 4. G. Spalding & Bros., of this city. was is- sued yesterday, and will be on sale by the pub- lishers at 117 Randolph street, and by dealers generally, on and ufter to-day. As it is the only work of the kind which bas the official batting and ficlding averages of League players for the geason of 1879, it is indispensable to all who take aninterest in the game. In addition to this important feature, the Guide contains a review of the season of 1678, the amended samstfeation: of the League, the playing rules in a new ani froproved form, the full proceedings of the reg- ular and special League mectings, the League address to players, and the only official League scheduie for the senson of 1650. There is also a valuable treatise on batting and pitching, illustrated by cuts ot eee ay em being those of Anson, who al the batting of the country Iast sear, an Drirymple, who stood at the head in 15:8, both being members of the present Chicago team. A fine likeness of Secretary Al spalding. of the Chicago Club, also adorns one of the pages of the book. The Guide can be obtained of dealers anywhere, the price being 10 cents. CHICAGO CLUB GAMES. ‘Through the kindness of Mr. N. E. Young, Secretary of the Learue, THE TRIBUNE has been furnished with the following table, showing ina convenient form the League games to be played by the Chicago Club this year: AT HOME. ABROAD. Hat [ear Bocleveland. {May 2 June 4 2—Boston. June 4. 5, $—Providence. Sune 10, 33 1$—Troy. “Aug. 10, 12 14—Pro ‘Aug. 17, 18, 1—Rastun. Aus. 2¢ 34 3— Worcester Bepe tah pt. 4. 6, 7—Bufalo, 1. 24, 28, Cleveland. |Sept. 2. 16, 11—Cleveland. Bebt. 28 2 0—-Bumalo. Sept 16 15 18—Cincinnath QUESTIONS ANSWERED. E.S., Dernorr—At a meeting of the Cass Club last evening a controversy arose as to the surest left-handed batter. The following names were mentioned: Dalrymple.O"Lears, James O'Rourke, and Hanlon, Now. if three men were on bases which of the abore would be your choice? Ang. O'Rourke would be the best man under the circumstances mentioned, but Joe Start would ‘be an improvement on any of them. READER, CHIcaGO—Please answer the follow- ing SUcedueE 1. If a base-runner is hit bra batted ball and thus put ont, how should it be scored according to League rules, and who would receive the put out and assist? 2. If a foul tip (or fly) be caught and then thrown to 8 base in time to catch a base-runner off that base, is he out, asin the case of afair tir? 3. Is there an ‘up and down curve in pitching? Ans—1. It is ecored in a foot-note. No assist or putsout is grea wan; player on account of it. 2. Yes. Yes. NOTES OF THE GAME. Dunlap, Henton, and McCormick have reached Cleveland. ‘Ward, the Providence pitcher, is taking things easy in Florida. The Buffelo Club is still without a manager, and none will be engaged at present. Caapman's chances for being engaged asman- ager of the Buffalo team ere decidedly slim. ‘The Cincinnati grounds are to be used for Sunday games, inorder to meet the depraved tastes of people in that city. Galvin has started for California, but Dolan is thinking the matter over. Nolan and Kelly aro also en route for San Francisco. Among the retired ball-players who would like to reenter the profession are Geer and Wads- worths, both being good short stops. Knowdell and Kessler, both wellknown in New York bail circles, have engaced for the coming season with the Westerns, of Topeka, Kas. Hague. who was forced to retire from the Providence team Inst.season on recount of his inability to throw, has undergone a. operation, and is reported all right again. Syracuse" MeCormick and Mathews, both of whom are considered first-class pitchers, are Full uncngared. One of them will probably be secured by the Worcesters as chunge pitcher. Dalrymple arrived a few days ago and will stay. ‘Kelir wot here last Friday. also to remain, ore, Quest. and Flint have been on band for I weeks, A ietter from Capt. Anson, re~ ceived yesterday. states that he will be hera about April 1, and that his health was never bet~ ter than at present. In all the League cities except Providence the rice of Season tickets will be $15, the Provi~ lence Ciub cha: $00. As there are forty- five championshfp games to be played in every ‘League city during the coming season, it would seem that €15ischeap enough for a reserved seat to sce them all. There are 129 pinying days in the League season, during which time the eight clubs will each have to play eighty-four games. and will be obliged to travel the following number of miles ta fli their dates: Chicago, 6,444; Cincin- nati, 6.24; Cleveland, Buffalo, 5.256; Bos ton, 6240; Providenee, 6,200: 4,990; Wor- cester, 6,470. Peters has finally signed in Providence, and will doubtiess take George Wright's place at Short-field. Itis understood that the managers of the Worcester nine are endeavoring to secure the services of Wright as short-stop andCaptain for the coming senson. George isreported to be willing to negotiate with the Worcesters, and will doubtless be enzaged if the Providence ub sents to give up the claim on him which it Svs by virtue of the Buftalo agreement. Itis confidently expected that this consent can be obtained, as it is for the pecuniary interest of the Providence Ciub that the Worcesters should be so strengthened asto insure an interesting series of games between the two cities. The Buffalo E: says: ‘For all practical purposes the Buffalo nine of 1890 is now com- ete, Esterbrook. of Iast year's Jersey Citys, aving signed as eleventh man. Esterbrook played short-stop for’ the Jersey Citys during 1609, and made an unusually fine record both ut the bat and in the field. His batting average is about .308 and his fielding £2L During the li senson be caught Poorman in several gam and zhe ister was so much pleased with his sup- rt that he signitied a desire to have him catch ‘or bim in 18%). So the experiment is to be tried, and, {fit works well. Esterbrook and Poorman and Rowe and MeGunnigle will officiate as the hatteries for the Buffalos of 1880. Even were Esterbrook to fail in his undertaking, he is fully able to assume any position in the outer or inner AMY MILTON'S LOVE.
