i 3 2 THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE: SUNDAY. DECEMBER 22; 1878—SIXTEEN PAGES. - CANADA. Collingwood - Harbor Employ- ment for the Poor. - Presbyyterian Temporalities — Court~ ney—Poultry. &pecial Dispateh to The Tribune. O1TawA, Dee. 21.—The mission of Mr. For- syih, Superintendent of the Money-Order De- partment, to Washington, Is said to be for the purpose of studying the money-order system sdopted in the oeighboring Republic. A few weeks ago, gentlemen from Washington were bere on a similar service. The Government intends to reduce the salaries of Clvil-Service officials by 10 per cent. A deputation, consisting of Col. Camberlana, Mr. Barlow Cumberland of the Northern Rail- way, the Mayor of Collingwood, and several members of Parliament, waited upon the Minis- ter of Public Works, and urzca the necessity of *deepening Collingwood Harbor by four fect,— making sixteen feet 1 all,—and of fmprove- ments in the breakwater lately constructed. It was explained that these imorovements were pecessary to meet the increased volume of trade passing thronzh Collingwood for Lake soperior and Western districts. The Minister of Public Works promised to give the matter his earliest consideration. A telegram from Washington says that Dr. TYoung, who was formerly Chief of the Bureau of Statistics at Washington, has accepted a prominent position in the Dominfon Statistical Bureau. Special Dispateh fo The Trivune. MoNTREAL, Uec. 2L—Employment for tae poor this winter will be provided in the shepe of bresking Macadoin stone for the streets, if tne Road Committee obtain what they are ask- jng for, namely: an advance of §30,000 from thelr next year's appropriations for the purchase of stont. ) The Temporalities Board of the Presbyterian Clioreh in Canads, of which the Rev. Dr. Jen- Lins is Presivent, was some time ago legally asssiled,—in the interest ot the remuants of coagregation, which did oot fall in with the union i which the present Presbyterian Church in Cauada had its origin,—by tlie Rev. Rovert Dobie, at whose instance an Injunction was laig on a certain funa of tie former Presby- terian Church of Canads in conuection with e Chureh of Scotland, which bad passed into the hands of the Temporalitics Board of the new Church, upon which the ministers of the oid Church bad claims in part paymengof their salaries. The ministers who did n&f fall in with the union were, by the agrecment thea come to, secured ther share. of this fund for life; but thesc held that the great body of the Church had by the union ceased to have any claims upon it, and claimed he whole for themselves, and took suit to ob- tain the same. The cace reached the Court of Appeals, and has there been dismissed, ou the ground that the security for costs given by Mr. Dabie was not furnisbed in the’ proper manner gccording to law. This brings the whole matter 10 a vonclusion, and further proceedings would Lave to commence de noto. * special Dispaich to The Tribune. Toroxto, Dec. 21.—Mr. E. B.
