OBITUARY. To the Editor of The Tribune. Cmicaco, Oct. 26.—In your paper of Wednes- day last, the death by vellow fever of Mrs. Mary Schrenbers, of New Orleans, was reported. As Mrs. Schrenberg wasa Chicago lady (ber parents and relatives are still living in the city), and as she hus nobly given her life for humanity, re- maining at her post of danger in spite of many entreaties of her friends to come North, I think some detsils of her heroie action wil be of in- terest to the many frienas she left in the city. Mrs. _ Schrenberz was the daughter of Mr. and 3Irs. G. Hart, now liv- ing~ at No. 1ot South Green street. She was the wife of Mr. L. Schrenbere, Super- jutendent of the Home for_Jewish Widows und Orphans at New Urleans.” When the fever first broke out at w Orleans, and ever since, her relations urged ber to come North, and, al- though she could easily have done so (having no children, and her husband not being dependent upon his position), she persistently refused to come, giving as a reason that she” could not Jeave the poor orphans under ber care in the hour of dauger. Inone of her last letters to one of her brothersshe says: “Ideem it my duty to remain here. Weareall in the hands of God, sud no one can escape His'tate.” Mrs. Sclirenberg was a lady of high attain- ments. She was fully aware of the aanzer she encountered, but, as a truc womnan aud heroine, the fultiliment of what si:e considered her duty was dearer to her toan life.
