A good deal of interest has been excited by this transaction. The recent purchases of lana by raflrosds in the vicinity of Chicago calls attention to- the rapid growth of the traffic busincss of the West. In the words of one of our principal loan agents, it was the blucst-week he had ever known. There was no dearth of applicants with first-class security, but there was an unac- countable dearth of funds. As the week'closed money was again coming forth from its hiding- place and ‘secking jnvestment. The market is not well suoplied, but even under this scarcity of funds there {8 no immediste disposition to ralse the rate_of interest, which continues steady at from 7 to 9 per cent. 1t is the general testimony that payments are exceedingly zood, and the fizures for the threc months show this to be true. qnm foreclosure sales have been more numerous than was generally exoected, but bave gradually dimiaished from mouth to month. There were no important loans the past week, but one or two may be quoted as indicating the state of the markef North LaSalle street, 50 feet southof Schiller street, west front, 25 by 151 fect, 54,000, threc years at 7 per cent. “Wabash avenue, between Tiwenty-second and Twenty-third streets, east front, 42 10-12 by 205 feet, $6,000, five years at 7 per cent.
