TIII CHICAGO TRIBUN SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1877—TWELVE PAGES. 3 TIE COUR' Ambler's Voluminous Bill on Pe~ troleums=Gas.. Moses Hook Wants Bnck-Pay as o Health Commissioner. Pogardns, the Champlon Wing-Shol, Wants Bis Paleal Profected, Confessions, Judgments, Bank- ruptcles, Ete. AMILER'S VOLUMINOUS 0AS TROGNLES, A.J. Ambler yesterday showed In what way e had been employine his time for the past six manths by Aling with the Clerk of the United gtates Clrcult. Court a bill of about 700 cloacly written pages, 1n which he tells the wrongs he ctaima to have suffered at the hands of Rodney M. Whipple anl others. 1t seems that in the spring of 1860 Ambler, the complainant, began experimenting on a process for prodacing an Buminating gas from petroleum by mneans of hiest and steom. Being In need of funds ha took fn Rodney M. Whipple, sgreeing that all prodta should be divided between them equally, sud the two continued their experiments ntil July 18, 1809, when 8 patent was fssued to them Toth for an {nventlon for obtaining gas from petrolcum. Bhortly afterward, however, \Whip- ple refused to allow comnplalnant to buve any- thing to do with the patent, and formed a co- partnership with T, B. Dickerson. [licze two then went on trying to perfect the gas machine, and fn September following a patent was lssiied tothem. Since that time they have continued the business, which has grown immensely, and, according to Ambler's opinjon, have made mill- fons of dollars of profits. In fact he estimates 1ls retrospective half ntereat In thé profits at $4.000000. The prospevtive profits e modestly omits to estimates. In 1873 Ambler began o suit 1o Washington, where all the cxperiments hud been carrled on, ngalnet Whipple & Dickerson, and obtained a decree declaring bim entitied o s hall Intereat in the protits derived from o use of the inventlon, aod also declaring the Whippte & Dickerson patent an infringement. “Ihe vescut sult s brought against - Whinple & ickerson, J.
