One of tho mest difficatt problems connected with the administration of the Order is that pre- sentsd by the frequent calla for assistance by those who, while passing through the large cities, or temporarily sojourning there, find themselves without means for continuing their journey or for temporary sopport. So numorous ars the calls opon some of the Lodges, and so necessary has it bscome to make proper inquiry into all cases, thatin many cities a Relief Committee has become almost & necessity. o case of application to such Lodges, an in- vestigation must in each case be made to prevent ition or imprudent assistacce, but where jety exists for that purpose, one investiga- tion is suficient, and all meccssary, and ‘may much more easily be afforded. Such a gocietly bas for some years been sustained by a few of the L:ffi" in Chicago, but the burden’ has been unequally borne, and fhe Lodges still subjectsd to the same calls for aid. * The last Grand Lodge of Iilinois passed an enabling act that will permit societies to be or- ganized snd supported, which will meet the ex- isting exigency, and relieve the Lodges, sod equalize the burden necessary to support and carry on such an enterprise. "The following is the goactment referred to: An act entitled an act to ensble Lodges in certain cities m?":“é:. w guon j_ufl:odlcflm of the Grand Lodge of the 0is to organize Eoards of General Beiief of the L. 0. 0.
