Visions in the Heavens---The Gift of Healing---Cast in Prison. Prof. Swing’s House of Industry for Idie Clergymen, Banquet Given the Methodist Bishe ops—Revival at Phila- delphia. Notes and Personals at Home and Abroad--_Church Services To-Day. THE COMING EVANGELISTS. A MODERN MITACLE. Abont two weeks ago two evangeliata named H. W. Booze and A. 8. Byers held services in the hall corner of Clinton and Twelfth streets, They recounted some marvelons experiences, and awakened & degree of interest among the Rev. Ir. Ravlin's congregation, who were then worshiping in the hall, which led taem to prom- ise n‘apaady retarn to the city. Yesterday Mr. Ravlin received a letter from them stating they would revisit him on the 18th inst., and remain .nfe\v days in the city. Mr. Ravlin is endeavor- ing to secura the Free Baptist Church, corner of Loomis aud Jackson streets, where ho is now oficn.lmg. for their mse. The evangelists are described 88 plain, unassuming, enrnest men, w_ho work in the Lords vineyard without any thought of pecuniary re- ward. They trust in Providence for their support, and even go o far 28 to distribute gratuitously a emall book they have had printed, which gives an account of their * wonderful persecntion and miraculous deliverance from death and prison.” 1f all that this book con- tains is trus, Messrs. Booze and Byers are the most extraordinary men in the world. The par- rativeis equal in irterest toand indeed some- what resembles the “Acts of the Apostlea.” Booze is the writer of the book, but he also speaks in the name of his co-worker Byers, who is hisuncle. It is learned from its pages that the evangelists, who had been separated for & number of years, were bromght to- ether by the *‘Providence of God” in Van uren County, Mich., on the 17th of March, 1872. They then covenanted to fast and pray together, and to ** recount the mercy of God 1:n- til we should receive greater lighc and power than we then had, for we bad always believed in the Apostolic faith and power.” For two weeks they went from place to place, praving sud pleading with thoir friends, at the end of which time Booze states that he received such an evi- deace of his ACCEPTANCE, WITH GOD s aszured him that, if they continged faithfal to their covenant, they would soon be led into ** waya they had not known.” On the evening of the 30th of March they held & prayer-meet- iog, regarding which Booze says : After having a season of prayer, wa were talking to each other about the goodness of God and our pros- pecta of Heaven; and while I was talking, the Holy Ghost filled the house liken mighty, rushing wind, and all were astonished that, benald wiat fologed, T was 80 filled with the Holy Ghost znd the glory of God that my voice was entirely changed. My whols frame was filled with & warm, electrifying influence, which was simiiai to a hesvy sbock from a powerfal vanic battery, with the exception of the bad feel- ing attendant upon such a shock, for, though I was filled to tho utmost, jyet the feel- ing prodiced was glorlouy, quickening evers power of both soul and body. My mind was 50 en- larged, my understanding 80 op:ned up, and my thongiits cinspired, I wss enabled to talk ss I nover could befors, Al the Scriptures that Thad ever read came to my mind, and I could repeat any pordon I wished, and I saw a beauty in then I never saw before, 1 then had my calling fuily foade known to me, and was fitted to falfill it from that moment. My uncle was also fillod with the Holy Ghost at the same time, insomuch that he leaped for joy, and praised God for beving shown s0 mn;:-h Tavor to ieeak mortala ke ua So grest was_our joy a o of great Drice that we slept bt ltte that Bight, bat sang and ‘praised God all nigh After this manifestation they detormined to await the direction of God in_all thiugs pertain- ing to their future action. The next day being the Sabbath, they weat to religious servics a4 the school-houss. 1t was evident to them tunt the ofliciating minister was '* A DECEIVED PROSELYTE OF NO-EGTL-18M,” and the Spirit of the Lord came upon tham so strong that they rose up and “ rebuked the apint of darkness that had taken poasession of the place.” So powerfu! and effectual was the trath propounded by them on that occasion that, toough it ~ was iheir first attemps, ‘‘the powers of darkness were shaken, the enemies of the cross were mads to tremble, bolievers were stren:thened, and a complete victory was won over Satan and his emissary of deception.” After this cisplav of epiritual prowess, which astonuded the congregation,— some thinking the evangehsts ware 1 others that they were possessed by tho devil, and yet otherz that their appear- aoce was & demonsiration of God,—thev were directed by the Bpirit to attend a meetiog to be held at another place—the pamphlet 18 annoyingly silent at times aa to names—in the evening. At this place they found & similar condition of things, 2nd also righted them in the same effectual way. April 1 they were *‘imprezsed” to return home to their families to console them. Their home was distsnt twelve miles, and they set out on foot, relieving the tedionsness of tha jouruey by re- ligions conversation. Both were filled with the Holy Ghost, sud “ every step seemed to bring them nearer Heaven.” Night overtook them. and wheo in the midst of a deep forest they had the following REMARKAELE EXPERIENCE : Saddenly there shone around us a3 light from Heaven, which made us to fee! that wo were in the im- ‘mediate presence of Elijal’s God. Our feelinga at this ‘moment were most inteuse, belog that of deep solemn~ nitr and admiration combined. My uncle said to me, “Let us ask God to bestow upon us the healing power.” Accordingly we both looked up toward Heaven, and entreated tho Lord to make known to us ihat power, 10 which we were rm believers, and im- mediately it was bestowed uron us in a most miracu- Jous manner, and suddenly thers came s voice to us sayiog, *Lie down!” and such was the power of thit volce that we fell upon our faces like dead men; snd after ha lain there for some minates 1 waa suddenly to my feet, and for the time being I futud 23S T hed == il % vilition of ay own, all power of seif-action was taken swsy from me, ingomuch that L wis speechless. Then there came & voice which sounded out 50 loid thst it seemed to #hake the very place where I st00d, and we wers en- circled by » beautifal ringof izat; and though we Saw no form, yet We Were ua sura that the Savior was th re in person 24 though we had seeu His form, for by Hin voiceand the hallowed influent» of His spirit He m2de us to know His preseace. Oh! the heights and the depths of the wisdom =nd jower nf God ! Who can_describa it? “How unsexrchable are all Ifis works, and His ways past finding out.” My feslings at this moment I cannot describe. They were those of awe, love, and praise combined, I wasnot frightened at what I saw and felt, for the reason that we kad been Traying continually ‘for some such manifestation s that we were witnessing, and .the voice af the Saviar seemed to speak 0 our hearts sayinz. o s NUMBER 3, *“* Ba not afraid, it i1 *; and then oux vojves snd un? ligible to us, Th: mfiifl'fflfifi? Tue old man, however, did not shoot, bat he ket Lis gun up at the preseat, and sy they cuuld not bring him to reason, these servants of God turned abont. They were then met by afriend named Abkermathy, who wished them ta try their healing skiil on his sick child. Abber- ma:by was chatechised a8 to his fauh in them after the most approved Apostolic mauner, but the evangeliats wer2 not permitted to give this proof of their divine gifts. Tho Lord then coms manded Brack to kneel anl kiss ths gromad thres times, “‘which ho did uuhesuatingly.’” ‘While they were eatveating him to become reconciled to God. four or five other fellows came up and befan pounding the ovangelists with doable-handed clabs. Bat, says Booze : The Lord was with us, and the glory of God shined round and about us, and their bows fell harmlsss ap~ on our heads, notwithstandinz the blood ran down us like rain, until we wera bant in oar own biood. Bat whilo being thus beaten for the cause of Christ, &nd tho testimony of Jesus, wa felt 0o pait, ware not knocked down, not even stagg:rod or stunned by their clubs, though we bired oar hesds to them, and did not try to Aave omrselvesin the least, for, from the ‘moment the frst blow was struck upon our heeds, we kuew more than we had ever kuown before, saw as we had never secn before, and every additional blow seemed only to add to our atrangth and joy, nuttl wo were £o filled with love and praize to God for His pro- tacting power, that wa shouted and praised God at the top of our voices. They told their persecutors to beat them until satisfiod thoy were undor God's care. One of the most powerful of them struck Dooze om Lis head, which be had bared for the blow, with a clab, but it had no more effect than_if & cap of water had been cashed on him. This marvel stopped the aseanit. Their aeeailants wera con- founded, and ecenicd alarmed for their own safets. Upon cousiderasion, the zang conclnded tobind the evangolsts, and ses what effect that treztment woull have upon them. They were piaced close togethor, and were bound from the feet up to their beads, one coil being pnt ¢ through my mouth and arcund my uncle's throat, and then drawn as tight as three men could draw it."” An ofiicer was then bronght cn the rcene to take the uufortunats fellows to jul. They were placed on o wagon in their - bound condition, bat on the way to the jail the officer's hieart becaine softened. and he prevalled upon the men to untie the ill-used evancelista. He requested them to go to his houso and have TAEIR WSUSDS dregsed.
