o) THE CHICAGU TRIBUNE: NUNDAY, OCTUBER ¥4, 1875.—~SIX'TEEN PAGES. COUNTY EXPENDITURES, Yhe Taxation We May Expect in 1876. How the Expenses Have Oufrun the Appropriations, ‘Commissioner Burdick, Chairman of the Com- Imittee on Finance of the Couoty Board, was em- ployed again y¢+terday in eearching the expense account of the ,unty for the first ten months of the year now lrawing to a close, with s viow to making 80 estimate far appropriations for county expenses for the ensuing year. It a5 noticed in these columps yesterday morning as a commentary wpon the manazement of county affairs during the vear that the appropriations had been nearly absorbed in ten mounths, ending Oct. 1, and that tbe prospect was that the appropriations far the next vear wonld bave to be increased about 10 per cent. The figures show EVEN A WORSE CONDITION of affairs, and maks it neceseary to almost dou- ble the percentage of increase, as will be seen from tie tabls exhibited below, taken from the books of tue County Board. Only such itome of expense are included, for the sake of compurison, as appropriations were male for the bezinning of the year, which is but ab balf of the money spent by the Board. exclus.”e of that put IDl0 perwanent public improve- ments, sm:h s the addition to the Insane Axy- Icm. :be woik on the new County Hospital, the boardiog-house at Englewood, and the new Court-House, .. : Amount Ezpended Tioads and br(dgu. Bleri’s office. .. Htate inatitutions, $014,690 $363,306 $799,500 Tt wiil be seen that the expenditures go far for which appropriations wers made have wmounted to $56.331 per month, and that up to Oc:. 1 thers was an unexpended balance of $GL.864, or a little more than enough to mest the expanditures of the present month. At this ratio of expense [HE EXPENDITURES WILL EXCEED THE AFPROPRI- ATIONS for the year over £50,000 in the items of ex- penee only where appropriations were made. Add to this the items where no sppropriations were made, and the expenditures for the year over and above the estimates will reach the sunz sum of £100,000. The Committeo on Fioance has agreed to rec- ommend to the Couuty Doard to-morrow the approp:istions sbove in the last column of fig- ures, aggregating §739.500, for the expenses of 1876, an increase of 8107.500 over the appro- priations of 1875, and this, too, with a recuced nmpmy valuation in the county of about §80,- _‘\dd to this increase a proportionate increase for expenses not provided for by appropriation, and the totsl increase of expense fur 1876 over Lhat of 1874, upon which the estimate ror 1875 was based, will reach $200,000. Tho figures are their own cominentary. —_———— The Finest Billiard Table in the World. Nothing adds greater charm {0 long winter even- ings than a quist game of billiards in cne's own home.
