A NEW REASON FOR NOT PAYING TAXES, ‘Tho Remington Sewing Bfachino Company filed s bill yestozdny against Michael vane and I, 8. Miller to restrain tho collection of tho btate and county taxeson its property for tue year 1874, T'ho bill charges that tho Romington Sewing Machino Company? and the fire-arms placo of businosa of E, Remington & Sons are kept in the same store, and under tho coutrol of the same agent, In July last the ‘own Assessor, or geome ono of bis dopntics, went to the store of tho Company to assoss the value of its property, While there he examined and much admired a doublo-barroled shot-gun, and hinted to the agent that he admired that guo vory much, and thought that he, the agent, onght to make him 8 prosent of {t, and he would make it all right with himon tho assessmont. The agent, how- ever, rofused to give the bribo, remarking that the Company was ready aud willing to pay its rightful taxes. Tho doputy thon assessed the stock st 85,725, which was approved by tho agent, who sigued the namo of his prin- cipals to the valuation.
