; SATURDAY, JULY 11, 1925 OFFIGERS WILL HOLD MEET AT VICTORIA, B.C. Wyoming to Be Repre- sented at Crime Conference. In the neighborhood of one thour sand celegates from the nine west- ern states and the three provinces of tke Canadian west will assemble at Victoria, B, C., on July 20 for the opening of a four-day international anti-crime conference under the ays. Pices of the Northwest Association of Sheriffs and Police. Internationally known jurists of the Canadian and American bar will be speakers on the convention pror gram. Law enforcement officers whose names are household words on both sides of the line will attond the gathering. Luke S. May, president of the as- sociation, and head of the Revolare International Secret Service, Seat. tle, has sent out invitations to ex: ecutive heads of federal, state, county and municipal forces through the west. Already) he has received the assurance that over three- fourths of the entire membership will be present. But the convention doors will be open to any police af- ficer, sheriff or peace officer irre. spective of whether he be a member of the association or not. This is the second conference to be held on Canadian soll and the city of “‘ictoria has spared neither time nor money to make the affair a suc- cess. On Canada's part officers of Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the proviucial police of the provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia as well as the heads of most municipal forces will be on hand. From the states of the union offt- cers from Idaho Nevada, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Utah, California and Montana will be on hand in their numbers. Dele- gates are even coming from Alaska to be on hand at what, it is“pro- jected, will be a business-like discus- sion of international police problems, The daya when the crminal’ slunk away on foot from the scene of the erime are past. Crime today files at speeds of sixty miles an hour and often the miscreant crosses sey- eral states and perhaps even an‘ in. ternational boundary line before deeming himself safe from pursuit. Only. the telegraph stretches be- tween, and then only when the men at both ehds have the will to work together. Conferences of this na- ture are designed to bring about a better international understanding and to establish the personal contact so necessary to the transaction of all business. Law enforcement officers are only beginning to pit against the criminal the same degree of wit and Intelll- gent organzation he displays in his nefgrious business. From the forth- coming conferenc,, it is anticipated, will spring a new bond of under standing between officers whose duty it is to work with one another across the border line. Over a thou- sand delegates, jt is anticipated, will respond to the call of the chair. Heat Victim Shipped With Tons of Ice ST.
