FRIDAY, MAY 8, 1925 PRINTING NDE GIFT TO STATE CHEYENNE, W May 8.—The painting “An Empire’s Tribute to the llag of Stars,” by o@ noted British artist, Margaret Lindsay Williams, has been presented to the state of Wyoming by Mrs, Silas Casteel, mother of the late Captain R. B, Casteel of Denver. This paint- ing, which resulted in heated dis- sion when it is exhibited in England during the World War, was presented to Captain Casteel while he was serving with the Red Cross in a base hospital at Cardiff, Wales, It was exhibited at Washington City, then was tuken to Denvei where it remained until it wa rought to Cheyenne recently. ‘The controversy over the painting hich caused it to have much prom- nence in England resulted from the act that it represents Britannia neeling before a figure symbollcal f Peace and kissing the American jag. ‘The purpose of the artist was to je the picture expressive of Brit- i's gratitude to the United State: r the latter's entry into the World ar.
