WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 1925 .FOUR WEEKS WITH THE UNITED STATES NAVY a Tribune Correspondent “Goes to Sea by Rail” in Crossing Salt Lake on Way to Join U. S. Fleet By EARL BE. HANWAY. CHAPTER Iv. Enough power is saved in moving such a train over the shorter distance to car man four hun- times between Néw York and n Francisco, which, also is con- siderable. The ORIGINAL Malted Milk Cheyenne, since it has been paved, is not half bad to pass away a few hours, especially if you have a friend there who will take the time to drive you out in the country. Bill Andrew, runner-up last year in the state golf championship play in asper and who carried off Ferris Hamilton's cup for making the long: est drive, closed up his office the minute I started to talking golf to him and drove me out to the Chey- enne Country club. It is a nice nine-hole course, but not near as sporty as the new Country club course in Casper. Owing to the nature of the country, being very flat, there are few natural hazards offered. As Bill said, you can ‘hook, slice and pull* your ball and then not be bad off as the “rough” is about on a par with the fairways. When Bill is not playing golf or taking part in American Legion ac- tivities, he is extraciing mohlers. Also had a pleasant visit in Chey- enne with John Fleming, business manager of the Wyoming State Tribune, Mr, W. C. Deming’s news: paper. John had me with him as a guest at the Kiwanis luncheon, and I want to remark that the Cheyenne Kiwanis membership is composed of one of the snappiest crowd of fel- lows I've seen in some time, except ing Casper, of course. There is something doing every minute and in some respects ‘it could be called a “gridiron club” for there is a lot of razzing and kidding with one another, They all take it good naturedly, too, H. C. Bretschneider, vice | presi- dent of the Midwest Refining com- pany and a former Casper man, was the chief speaker before the lunch- eon and it was to be regretted that he had to be called for a long dis- tance telephone call just as he was in the act of telling the Kiwanians of the prospects for 1925 with refer- ence to exploration for new of] flelds in Wyoming. He did get to say, however, that a number of new prospective flelds would be explored this year in Wyoming in line with his company’s program in seeking new production. I have had the good fortune to meet on the train Mr. J. T. Cushing of the Daily Messenger, of St. Albans, Vermont. He is also en- route to San Francisco to accom- pany the fleet. I have found him mighty pleasant company. He is about my age and we have found considerable in common with each other. He is a Dartmouth man and has traveled extensively abroad. St. Albans, so he tells me, is less than 40 miles from Montreal, and is in the heart of a great lumbering section. Major General Heinz is also a passenger aboard this train, enroute to San Francisco, where he will also sall with the fleet as junior umpire for the army in refereeing the tac: tical work during the maneuvers. The genera] is traveling with his aide and in civilian clothes, but this fact does not conceal him ag being an army man. He has a wonderful LOOK AFTER YOUR QWN INTEREST. The quickest and most effective way in which you can do this and at the same time lower your taxes and establish economy in the management of public busi- ness, is to join the Taxpayers’ Association. This train is known as the Con- tinental Limited and is a fine pjece of equipment. It carries all-steel standard sleeping cars, dining car, parlor car with such added con- veniences as maid, barber and bath. It’s too bad I won't be on this train Saturday night. OPEN SHOPPERS WIN IN SUPREME COURT DECISION Sherman Anti-Trust Law Not Violated in Frisco Builders’ Fight. WASHINGTON, April 15.—The Sherman anti-trust law was not vio- lated by the building exchange, the Industrial association and others of San Francisco in the fight for open the supreme court decided in sing the lower court. The court held that the builders opposing were not guilty of restrain- ing interstate commerce in building materials, The permit system enforced by the builders during the controversy in which buflding materials were with: held from those who did not main- tain open shop, was found by the court not to have been illegal, The Industrial association of San Francisco, the Builders’ Exchange, the California Industrial Council, the Industrial association of Santa Clara and others were restrained in the lower courts from refusing to seil certain building materials which had been brought into the state in interstate commerce. It was charged that in conducting the fight in San Francisco they had restricted the sale of building material. re WOOLGROWERS IN SESSION With various problems pertaining to wool and mutton production on tap for discussion, the County Woolgrowers met this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the city hall council ‘chambmers. ‘The promotion of a local “‘eat-more- mutton” campaign, how to bring about better marketing conditions and legislation governing the pub- ic domain, were among the major opics scheduled ‘for discussion. Ira Wight, secretary of the Na- tional Wool exchange, and J. B, Wilson are on the program as the principal speakers.
