He knew the ways of women. He had seen them come and go and those that he desired to mark with the personal brand were easily charmed by his offers of “name” and fame within the Nmelight of his activity. Yet Jean Bronson was different, at least she thought she was although she was only an attractive society girl, turned out of a rich home and who turned to the stage for a livell- hood. She had a pretty face and physical beauty and when she met the theatrical man in question, he was fascinated. He declared he was crazy about her and he even. went so far as to kiss . ‘Yet could she resent {t? She knew her beauty to be her greatest asset—almost her only one. She craved a stage con- quest but to rise to the heights de- sired she did not know that she had to submit to the caresses and sweet words of a fawning producer. Then there was another man, en- tirely different, young, handsome and honest, and who was madly in love with her and who had been sep- arated from Jean through the per- sonal machinations of the very kin who has breezed Jean out of her palatial surroundings. Young Ken- yon finnally wins out and carries Jean away from the sordid stage life in which she seemed wholly out of alignment.
