ADVANGE MADE IN WHEAT MART Severe Heat Likely to Re- sult In Injury to South- ern Crops CHICAGO, June 14.—Bevere heat southwest likely to cause crop damage led to an early advance in wheat prices today. It was reported that the bulk of the wheat crop in the big producing region of Kansas and to a less extent in western Okla- homa was either in the milk or the dough stage of development. Bulls contended that therefore the crop throughout the region referred to was peculiarly susceptible to shrink- age and blight. Opening prices, which ranged from % to Sc highe with July 1.11% to 1.11%, and Sept- ember $1.13 3-8 to $1.13% were fol- lowed by a material further advance. Corn and oats were firmer, owing Taore or less to the wheat advance. *fter opening unchanged to %o up, July 81, to 81%, the oorn market scored slight further gains. * Oags started at %*@% to Ko high. er, July 47%, and later wentup a little more. Advanced quotatjons on hogs helped to.strengthen the provis- | & fon market. STOCK MARKET MAKES GAINS Despite Selling of Oils and Motors, Issues Keep Up Gains NEW -YORK, June 14.—Selling of some of the oils and motors, which yielded fractiorally on initial trans- actions, failed to halt the upward movement irt other sections of the Ust at the opening of today’s stock market. Rails, particularly the low priced issues, again were in good demand. American Car and Foundry advanced 1%, American Waterworks 1 and Consolidated Gas advanced fractionally to a néw 1924 high. U. S. Cast Iron Pipe dropped one half points. Heaviness of the ol] shares was traceable to 50c cut in Penna crude ofl, - Woolworth new stock jumped four points to 98, a new record top. Further accumulation of the rails sent Western Pacific common and perferred, Erie common, Great Northern preferred, Rock Island seven per cent preferred, Pere Mar- quette preferred and Chicago and Northwestern to their highest prices of the year, early gains being a point or less. General Electric drop- ped 2% points and Norfolk and Western 1%. American Car and Foundry extended its gain to 2% points. Foreign exchanges opened steady.
