ane PAGE EIGHT. TUESDAY, MAY 20, 1924 NO ACTION {3 TAKEN. ON WAR BY METHODISTS Conference Does Not Adopt Report on At- titude of Church SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 20.— Action n the Methodist church's attitude toward war was postponed by the Methodist Mpiscopal general conference. D tisfied with the recommentation of a standing committee, the delegates voted for the appointment of n special com- mittee to frame a new proposal and report it by next Friday. ‘The election of new bishops also ‘was postponed. The conference re- scinded its former decision to choose five bishops and substitute the num- ber three and it was announced that the committee on the episco- pacy must make a new arrange- ment of areas before the balloting can begin. ‘Both reports are a great disap- pointment to us,” sald William W. King of Kansas City, Mo., of the war attitude recommendations of the committee on the state of the church, introduced today. The ma- jority report proposed separation of the church from all wars and a mi- nority report suggested excepting wars “indisputably in safe defense or in defense of humanity.” Both reports advocated, a cam- paign of education by the govern- ment on the causes of war and the entry of this country into the World Court and “an associaiion of na- tions.” | —_———— | | | MEANS VISITS IN MISSOULA MISSOULA, Mont., May 20.—Gas- ton B.
