WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 1924: PLAYING AT AMERICA “The Woman on the Jury” opened yesterday at the America theater. It is somewhat of a problem picture, A woman is placed on a jury and ts called to judge one of her own sex who has been guilty of nothing but that she herself would have been guilty of had she been similarly cir- cumstanced, and had fate played his cards a Uttle more ruthlessly, A struggle, an accidental shot, death, a charge of murder, Yet through it all the woman on the jury maintains that the defendant is innocent of any wrong doing and that a perfect- ly decent creature can sometimes be found in embarrasing circumstances. Eleven men seek to argue her out of her position but she is adamant and finally she proves to them through the medium of confession that she is right. Sylvia Breamer has the role of the Jy wading woman. Frank Mayo is lead- ing man and Lew Cody is the villain. Others of interest are Ford Sterling in one of his funniest parts, Henry B, Walthall, Marry Carr, and Bessie Love. “CAPTAIN APPLEJAGK” ON SCREEN HERE TODAY Scarlet sun on a sapphire sea. A white-winged armada coursing in convoy to the rich argosies of trade. A long, low, raking craft on the horizon; God-fearing pennant at the peak and the Jolly Roger on the ropes for hoisting at the kill. “Yo, ho, ho, and a bottle of rum!” In other words, “Captain Apple- jack," who swashbucked about the stage to the delight of season-long audiences in New York and London, hag arrived on the screen, and will be seen today at the Rialto theater, under the ittle of “Strangers of the Night.”* “Strangers of the Night” is a Fred Niblo production, presented by Louls B. Mayer and distributed by Metro. ——<_—_$_$_»—____ ‘ Call tho Tribune for highway in- formation. S.S.S. keeps away Pimple You will be to admit compelled that the results of S.S.S. are really amazing! The scene is one of the most thrilling Mix ever made and it was only after considerable persuasion. that he urged Tony to the task. Again in a ride through a blind- Ing snow storm, Mix teaches the in- domitable little horse to wear snow shoes. Between the two of them, there are more unique ‘stunts of novel daring than even Mix and Tony ever attempted before. | CURRENT PROGRAM AT COLUMBIA ENDS TODAY The Columbia theater is staging its current attraction for the last times tonight. ‘This includes four acts of vaudeville and a musical comedy.
