. SATURDAY, MAY 10, 1924. ‘THOMAS ica NOW ON SCREEN AT RIALTO Tom Melghan and a group of kid- Remember the riot they raised in “The Bachelor Daddy"? Tom’s back with the youngsters again at the Rialto theater in a Booth Tarkington story, Pied Piper Malone.” It's a fine wholesome love tale, produced by Alfred Green. Lois Wilson, George Fawcett, Cyril Ring, if evenson and others play in “EXCITEMENT” CLOSES NT AMERICA TONIGHT Sherwood Forest, on the famous Mathewson Ranch fifty miles trom Universal City, where the spectacu, lar fox hunt of “A Lady of Qualit; was filmed, was again the scene of screen production during the filming of “Excitement,” the Universal pic- ture today at the America. Laura La Plante and a big com- pany, under the direction of Robert ‘Hill, worked several days on the out- door scenes of the picture which marks Miss La Plante's introduction to the screen under her new starring contract, Originally written for an- other’s use, it was assigned to Miss La Plante on the decision of Unt- versal heads to promote to stardom thelr most promising actress. The story is a novel one, relating the adventures of a bride who has a craze for undergoing sensational ex- perlences. Horseback rides, leaps over cliffs, sensational airplane tricks and hair-raising auto stunts cram the picture, forming the back- ground for a hilarious series of ad- venture: The airplane thrills were provided by Al. Wilson, the celebrated stunt aviator. _ HICK TALMADGE TELLS WHY HE TOOK UP WORK IN MOTION PICTURES Richard Talmadge’s advent into pictures was made through Douglas Fairbanks. Being a great friend and admirer of Doug. Dick spent a great deal of his time at the Fairbanks studio, One day on the lot Dick en- aged in an athletic contest’ and the ase and grace with which he ex- ecuted the most difficult stunts in- duced Fairbanks to encourage Dick to enter moving pictures. His first super-feature, “Taking Chances,” bears out Doug's confidence in this star. You will be treated to a thrill a minute and witness stunts never before attempted on or screen. “Taking Chances” plays at the Iris today.
