It will be the start of’ the most hazardous portion of the flight of four United States army planes ind the world, a course that will hem above the curving column Aleutian islands to the ¢ and from there on across e shores of Asia. Major Frederick L. Martin, fight commander, announced today that the planes will be in readiness to start with the sun a week from yes- erday, earlier than expected, and that the revised scheduled will’bring them to the end of their flight fit- teen days earlier than expected. Major Martin expects that his will make Prince Rupert, B.C., 650 miles distant, in one hop, then to Sitka and from Sitka on in a series of flights to Attu on the westerly tip of the Aleutians. When the planes rise from the water# at Attu they will leave the western hemisphere and enter the ee eastern, with a hop that takes them across 800 miles of open ocean to Paramushira in the Kurile islands. For ten hours the planes will be out of sight of land, “and if any- thing happens its just between God and us if we ever are seén again,” as Major Martin phrases it.
