NUMBER 31 Advance WZ 11 1a) =: O Notes On Industry Editorial ANG TAKING FORM FOR BIG SHOWIN MARCH In the Spring a young man's fancy turns to birds and trees and automobiles. Acting upon this supposition Casper automobile deal ers are busily engaged in planning the greatest automobile show in th history of Casper. At a spec meeting held a trifle more than a week ago, the Casper Automotive Dealers Association, local organiza tion of men engaged in the automo- bile business, set the dates for the Spring show at March 24 to 27 in- clusive. Tho Arkeon has. been rented for the dates set, and all is in readiness for the staging of the motor car ex- hibition, W. R. Yellding, Lee Doud and C. West, all widely known in local motor car circles, have been named as the general show com. mittee and will have full charge of the arrangements. In addition to practically every automobile representative in Casper, several tire and accessory houses are. expected to enter exhibits. Space will probably be limited and ePhibits will of necessity be some- what smaller than they have been in the past to make room. for a greater number of participants. There will be entertainment ga- lore. Mr. Dou will probably en- gage experts in the art of song and dance while upon a contemplated trip to Denver. It is the hope of the auto men that this year's Spring attraction will be bigger and better in every way than any presented here in the past. Their enthusiasm would seem to indicate that a huge success is in the offing. A ad Expert witch and jewelry repair- ing. ANN, ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 23.— “The car whose driver recklessly or drunkenly puts human life in jeopardy has no right on street or highway. Take it away from him. Let the punishment follow the car as well as the driver. The auto- mobile industry recommends this penalty in addition to all others now applicable where the offense has been proved after due process of law. The term during which the AUTO RADIATOR SERVICE car {s impounded should vary ac- cording to the seriousness of the offense.” This declaration, shot forcefully into the proceedings of the tenth annual conference on highway en- gineering at the University of Michigan, by Geo. M. Graham, was a dramatic event of tonight's pro- ceedings. Its justice and daring thrilled a large crowd. Mr. Graham is chairman of the newly appointed traffic planning and safety committee,- representing the Automobile Manufacturers’ as- sociation, the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce. ‘Therefore, his drastic recommend- ation carried the full authority of tho automobile industry which now takes its place among the leaders in demanding the safeguarding of traffic, “The automobile ts a benefit to civilization,” said Mr, Graham. “It must not be converted into a menace by the small minority of owners, less than 5 per cent, who do not drive considerately. “The man who cannot drive care fully has no right on the highway. Automobiles Mechanics Is Being Urged Some years ago a law was pro- posed for Michigan requiring that all people hired to do automobile repairing be licensed by the state after proving their ability by proper examinations. The bill failed to pass the atate legislature as many people outside of the larger cities were opposed to re strictions of that nature. “A recent trip through Mich igan,” says A. G. Zeller, president of the Michigan State Automobile school, Detroit, “has con me that such a bill would r pass today. As the use of mobiles has become wide owners have lack of properly trained do service work. “The need of some method of determining the fitness of an auto mechanic is well recognized. We license plumbers and electricians. Doctors and attorneys are re- quired to pursue a long course of training. The real estate man and the securities salesman are sunder the control of the state government. “In spite of all this, some greenhorn who does not know a socket wrench from a distributor auto- spread, come to realize the men to head is ged to work on someone’ or ten thousand dollar ruin it, without any chance for recourse on the owner's part. Such a condition of affairs is an injustice to the automotive industry.” DOOR SLAMMED ON MOTORISTS A. A. A. President Ex- ercized Over Failure Of Tax Relief. “The door has been slammed in the faces of 15,000,000 motorists” is the way the apparent refusal of the Ways and Means Committee to even consider the removal of any part of the war excise tax on motor vehicles, appears to the of f'cers of the American Automobile Assocation, according to a letter of Protest written yesterday to Hon. William R. Green, Chairman of the committee by Thos. P. Henry of Detroit, President of the Three A’s which represents the motorists of the Nation. Amazement and indignation expressed by Mr. Henry that “the secretary of the treasury or the Ways and Means committee could rewrite a taxation bill and recom- mend, among other things, the re- moval of the war excise tax on dag- gers and knives, cosmetics and per- fumes, telegraph and _- telephone messages, cereal beverages and fountain syrups, circuses and en- tertainments, candy and carpets and rugs, without removing at least the tax on misfortune whereby a motorist, having already paid a war tax on his car, is required to pay an additional tax on every bro- ken part renewed.” Depriving the motorists of the country of any re- Nef from war taxation incident to motor car operation was charac- to the motorist. was TRIBUNE TOUR BUREAU ASSURED JUCCESS BY REGENT RESPONSE Letters From All Over State Commend Project Launched Here; Suggestions From Casper People Are Invited.
