PAGE FOUR. G. 0. P. 10 FACE STIFF BATTLE IN CONVENTION Increase in Southem Delegations Will Be Opposed. WASHINGTON, Dec. 14.—Indica- tions are becoming clearer that the Republican national cenvention may be the scene of a sharp fight over the national committee's action tn restoring the delegate strencth «f southern states in its unexpected revision this week of reapportion ment figures. This trend, first developed during the committee's discussion of the question, became more marked to- @ay with publication of statements by Senator Johnson of California, a candicate for the presidential nam- ination, and Chairman John T. ‘Adams of the committee, attacking and refending the action. ‘While it has not been determined whether the Johnson organization will fight the southern delegates re- storation on the floor of the conven- tion, Senator of Howell of Nebraska who opposed the revision at the committee meeting, holds that the re-opening of the question was with- out authority and has expressed the belief that tf brought before the con- vention, the decision would be set aside. Senator Johnson, in his state ment, characteries the revision as an act by which “the Republican atates are penalized” and the south ern states, where there is no Re- publican party and where delega- tion some times are & farce and a scandal, are rewarted.” Chairman Adams, on the other hand, says the revision adds only nine delegates to the 1920 apportion- ment of the southern states ,as com- pared with 116 for those which went to President Harding: WILLIAM JARDINE Sf ONES AT JOWA HOME ‘William Jardine Sr., father of the Yate William Jardine of Casper, and Yormer resident of this city for one and onehalf years, died yesterday at his home in Counell Bluffs, Towa.
