James P. 2 LOST AND FOUND | the In Number Being Fattened. * CHICAGO, Dec. 14.—Feeder cat- tle on farms picking up weight for the stock markets number about 15 per cent less in the western ant Pacific slope states than at the same period last year, the weekly summary of the department of agri- culture says. In the eleven corn belt states, the total number of cat tle on feed is about two per cent larger than the 1922 figures, “In the western states, only Mon- tana shows an increase in cattle feeding over last year,” the depart- ment bulletin says. ‘This year on December 1, the state was feeding 42.000 head compared with | year ago. Utah, Nevada and ¢ nig show decreases from 15,000 to 20,000 head each. The number in Colorado and Idaho are somewhat less than last year.’ “In sofar as the numbers of cat- tle on feed indicate the suppl’es for slaughter,” the report continued, “it appears that the supply during the present winter and jcoming spring will be about tho same in the corn belt states as fast year, but with cattle somewhat lighter-in weight.
