Board cross walks will be placed at certain crossings in different parts of Casper in the near future, according to action taken by the city council tn its special sesston last night. The city brought jt to the attention of the body that it would be expensive and next to impossible to place concrete walks at these streets because of the cold weather and that an emerg- ency had arisen because of the muddy condition of the streets, The injustice of forcing property owners to put in sidewalks while the city aid not complete the work by fur nishing cross walks was brought out. The wooden crosswalks can be constructed at about half the cost| of the concrete and wi! last for at least two or three years, it is sald. ‘West Casper and Hast Casper aro the most important sections of the city where the streets are so muddy that {t is practically impossible for. residents, to get around without great inconventence. The possibility of closing A street between Center and Market streets was brought before the coun- ctl. No action was taken on the pro- posal. It is considered that this Piece of land would be valuable to the county in the event that a new court house were built and the pres: ent site of the court house were thrown open, thus giving a thor oughfare for, traffic on Center street. The council deeded to School Dis- trict No. 2 the lana which is the site of the present Reservoir school building. Another special meeting of the council will be held next Tuesday evening. Train No. 1 which leaves Denver for the west each day at 8.15 o'clock in the morning, has been made up of two sections. The same is true |of the train which leaves Salt Lake City eastbound to Denver every afternoon at 4:46 o'clock. Every car in the first section of these trains has been a pullman. In both coaches {have ‘numbered between three and six while pullmans nave run from five to eight ‘These cars have not completely made up the trains for there have been the figmems and baggage cars. Such long trains mean something in considering the extent of the business handled. From 700 to 800 Passengers has not been an unusual number of those either leaving or arriving in Denver of one of these scenic sections, Much of the vol- time of this traffic i due to the fact that special rate are estab lished from May 16 to October 31. The rates of the past Season, it is announced, will be in effect next year, Burlington passenger business has been swelled in sumewhat the same proportion due partly to the fact that its trains from Chicago make connection in Denver with the D. & R.
