“BRIGHT SHAWL” HAS MEAN SCREEN VILLAIN The meanest of motion picture villains {s portrayed by Anders Ran- dolf, famous “heavy,” in his role of Santacilla, a Spanish army captain, in Richard Barthelmess’ starring vehicle, “The Bright Shawl," First National feature, being shown for the last times today at the Iris theater. The story is lafa in Cuba in the days when the fron heel of Spanish oppression had not yet been cast off by that sorely pressed country. Santacilla is not the ordinary type of in. HIT Affording Dorethy Dalton, the star, one of the strongest roles in which she has been seen here in many months, and introducing Charles de Roche, a famous French ecreen star, in his first American made picture, “The Law of the Law- less” scored @ decisive hit at the Rialto theater yesterday. Miss Dalton is seen as a young ‘Tartar gir] who ts sold at auction to pay the debt her father owes All, a usurer. Sahande (Dorothy Dalton) sacrifices herself to save her father from a. Iike fate—for this is the law of the land. Ali seeks to buy her, but is outbidden by Costa, a gypsy chief, who later forces her to be- come his wife. Sender, the coward- Jy lover of Sahande, with his Tartar followers attacks the gypsy village and captures Costa. Sahande sets out to rescue Costa, for she now has fallen in love with her husband. She finds him Ali's captive in the minaret room of the Mosque. A fight follows; a lantern is over- turned, and soon the minaret is in flames. The gypsies force an entrance into the Tartar village and a battle ensues. The ensuing scenes bring to a close one of the most interest- tng and dramatic pictures ever seen in Casper. Theodore Kosloff artistically por- trays the role of Sender while Charles de Roche presents a virile Costa. The adaptation was made by BE. Lioyd Sheldon from the story by Konrad Bercovici. I knew it would come out that way.” While the spectators may feel a gecret pride at being able to fore- east the ending of a play, at the same time they feel they have been cheated. They want a climax that is totally unexpected; one that will make them gasp with surprise. That is the sort of climax you will seo in “The Girl of the Golden West.” an Edwin Carewe produc- tion, which is coming to the Iris theater Friday and Saturday, as a First National release. It is based on David Belasco's famous play. The climax is a thrilling one and it's going to make the chills run up and down your spine. Reduce Those Dan- gerous Swollen and Open Sores in a few Days. FIGHT OVER W’CRAY NOT SETTLED =: INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Oct. 4.— Differences between state Republi- can leaders, resulting from the in- quiry into Governor McCray’s finan- clal affairs by the party’s state com- mittee, were climaxed Tuesday by statements from John Moorman, who denounced the investigation as a political move instigated by Pres- ident Coolidge and ex-Governor James P. Goodrich, who denied Moorman’s charge with the added as- sertion that the governor had been accused of serious offenses. Mr, Moorman, who is McCray’s political adviser, declared the meeting had been ordered by the president on representation of Mr. Goodrich that McCray’s faflure as a farmer would serlously hamper the prospects of the Republican party among the farmer votes. Mr. Goodrich termed the state- ment of Mr. Moorman as “absolutely false” and without the foundation. The meeting wae called he sald, after.charges had been made by responsible men, thorough- ly familiar with the executive's af- fairs, that the governor had been guilty of actions involving the most serious consequences.
