Harvey has boxed every one that the promoters have b: ways giving the best that he was capable of putting out to the fans. Harvevy, a former wrestler has been handicapped up until his last bout which was with Hughle Walker, when he stood up and fought the K. C. heavy star to a standstill and copped the decision. Harvey with this win under his belt went to work in earnest and in his gym workouts has shown a 100 per cent improve- ment. The Casper lad is employed at the| Standard refinery and has a host of| frieinds here who wish him well when he climbs through the ropes to meet the Colorado heavy, Knapp, Friday event! His quiet pleasing manner and gentlemanly way has made the local boy a favorite not only with his friends in the city but with the} sport followers who have come in to the Oll City to witness Friday evening’s card. Harry Neary, who manages Midget Smith, is of the opinion that there are many heavies around the eastern sport centers that would be apple sauce for Harvey. John O'Riley with the Smith party who hod handled several of the glove said that Harvey is a hard, greatest boxers ever to draw on a consctentious worker and will event- ually meet some of the better boxers in the game if he keps going as he has in the past two weeks in his workouts. O'Riley knows a fighter when he sees one and it is a dead and buried cinch that John knows what he is talking about. If Harvey continues to keep up his hard work he will be taken east this fall to get the finishing touches on his educa- tlon. ——— _ SPORT BRIEFS DETROIT — Jack McAuliffe, local heavyweight, was declared suspended and fined $200 by the state boxing commisstoner because of his alleged poor showing against Martin O'Grady of Los Angeles, last Monday night. The result was costly for the Yankees as Philadelphia de- teated St. Louis 5 to 2. It was a triumphant day for Urben (Red) Faber, who made the first home run of his career when he drove the ball into the bleachers. Four lightning fast double plays featured speedy work of the Ath- letics’ support of “Slim” Harris. The Athletic needed to win and Cleveland | also won and gained a point in th race for second place, only two points separating them—four Boston pitch- ers yielded 16 hits, including a home run by Pinch Hitter Joe Connolly with the bases full. The score was 17 to 4. Walter Johnson, was in rare form and Washington evened the series with Detroit, 5 to 1, and the Senators moved toward leadership of the sec- ond division. The western teams of the National League, all playing at home, made a clean sweep, Brooklyn losing to Pittsburgh, 7 to 3. The victory gave the Pirates @ clear hold on second place, . The contest at Chicago was featur- ed_by Umpire Moran reversing his decision on a disputed play\and the New York Giants losing, 6 to 1, their only telly coming from a home run by Catcher Snyder. 4 Both St. Louls and Cincinnat! won th eformer being extended to 12 in. nings by Philadelphia in the first Samo of their series, and the Iatter making it two straight from Boston with the score of 6 to 1.
