The estimated receipts for the fiscal year are $4,100,000,000, leaving a sur- plus ot approximately $300,000,00@ of ordinary receipts over ordinary ex- Penditures. We have, thereforo, in the first year of the Republican adminis- tration balanced the budget with a surplus of $30,000,000. “The public debt has been reduced under the Republican administration by approximately a billion dollars. Ap- Ppropriations have been and are being cut and economy is the watchword all along the line. For the first time in @ long time the country is living. and doing business well within its in- come. Among the many other questions Giscussed were freight rates for the Rocky Mountain region, declaring that under existing laws this section would in the final analysis be accorded equit- able rates in the re-adjustment now under way. “The reclamation system {s due for & general overhauling out of which . Must come a bettcr system and a bet- ter plan of adjusted payments by land owners.” At the conclusion of Mr, Mondell’s address a social dance occurred par- toipated in by the townspeople and visitors and continuing f)r a couple of hours.
