FRIDAY, JUNE 30, 1922. SUMMER CAMPS. FOR YOUTHS IN PARKS PLANNED Movement Inaugurated to Es- tablish Series in Glacier National for Boys of Country. WASHINGTON, D. C, June 30— Men of national prominence are behind @ nation-wide back to nature move- ment, approved by the National Parks department of. the United States gov- ernment, to establish a series of sum- mer camps in the wilds of Glacier Na- tional park where youth, under the chaperonage of experienced men, will get all the thrillf it yearns for with- out the additional unnecessary dan- gers which would go with it if they “went it alone.” Young college stu- dents and boys of preparatory schools of the country will fill these camps Principally and, if the plan is suc- cessful, simflar camps will be, estab- lished in other national parks, it is said. Fred F. Gignilliat, son of the com- mander of Culver Military academy, will be in charge of the camps. He will conduct them in true western style and he has outlined a program that will pcrmit red-blooted boys to don chaps and swing a leg over the old stock saddie and ride over the pic-; turesque trails that invite the lover] of the free and open to Glacier Na- JUST ANOTHER TANK ON FIRE--INTEREST WANES | WHEN ONLY ONE BLAZES| An ethical phenomenon to satiate the hunger for ex- citement possessed by the normal American populace and a curse and source of expense to the Standard Ofl company appeared over Casper Wednesday night about dinner time and through the uncanny agency of a solitary stroke of lightning, ts- nited a 55,000-barrel crude oil tank on the Midwest tank farm across the river from the refineries. ‘The blaze burned furiously until the use of a man-made chemical com- pound successfully overcame the de- structive power of the elements. This is the fifteenth crude storage tank of the 22 owned by the company that has been struck by lightning within the past 12 months. All have had wooden r>%fs, which were blown heaven-ward by the force of the ex- plosion, thereby permitting the fire to rage unrestrained until foamite was pumped over the blazing sur- face. A tank no longer arouses enthuiasm or interest among Casper residents, the simultaneous burning of seven last year having rendered them immune from emotion over the burning of one. ‘Twenty thousand people are today wondering why one spot and one spot only should be the particular location of a storagy .angnetic field that at opportunity makes it- | tlonal park every summer. The boy campers wil) sleep in. tents but they will have a clubhouse and meas shack in a chalet wiich has been designed especially for this use by Ivan Viehe Naess, Chicago architect, who “won Prominence as an associa®™ of Burn-| ham, of World's fair renown. Already nm number of preparatory school and lege heads have shown a keen in terest in the movement. The council for the project consists of such nation ally known personages as Kenesaw M. Landis. Hary Roberts Rhinehart, Walter Camp, Ernest ton, Henry Kitchell Theodore Roosevelt. Jon Wallace, James Scouts of America, Witzhugh Lee of the United § army an@ Gen. L. L. Why should the tank farm be ‘so much more subject to destrection by a thunder-bolt than tanks located on the opposite side of the river? Is it the wooden roofs? This is the opinion held by many of those scientifically trained, who claim that the wood becomes surcharged with electricity, thereby rendering the tank more susceptible to a light ning spark.
