Boston --. ( > Philadelphia Che Casper Daily Critune PAGE FIVE COLORED WELTERS 10 CLASH IN SEM-WINDU Eddie St. Clair and Willie Mayfield of Pueblo Matched for Mill. Eddie St. “air, the popular colored Welterweight, has been secured to fight Willie Mayfield of Pueblo, Colo. im the second big feature bout on the fight card which George McLeod has scheduled for the night of July 3. Harvey Perkins and Punch Patter son will meet ‘n the final ten round bout and the battle between St. Clair and Mayfield will attract equal atter- tion with that fray. St. Clair has forrht many times in Casper during the past two yearx and on every occa: sion has put up a good battle. He is clever, fast and a willing mixer. Mayfield csaces here touted as the negro welterweight champion of the northwest. No matter how good he is, he will have his hands full when he and Eddie meet as the local bey has a habit of throwing gloves at his opponent from every angle—a habit that has proved both distressing and disconcerting to several of them. In his last battle here Eddie knocked out Young Winfrey in the fourth round in which was one of the most vicious fights ever fought in Casper. Perkins and’ Patterson are in hard training for their battle and it should prove to be an interesting battle of giants. With the big boys speedy foot- work is seldom seen, but it is the wallop that counts, Both Harvey and Patterson possess a blow that will mean curtains if it ever lands on the button, The fight on July 3 will be held at Jones’ garage, west of the Virginia hotel, The building is 100x125 feet and the ring will be elevated 42 inches from the floor. There gwill be 200 ringside seats-and 200 reserved seats, the remainder of the house being gen- eral admission with the rule “first come, first served" in force. eens ‘Club Standings National League. NEW YORK, June 27.—Considera- ble interest was evidenced today by sport followes when the state boxing commission went into its regular weekly meeting, speculation running high on the question of whether the commissioners would take official cognizance of the criticism of some sporting writers regarding the sud- den termination of last night's bout between Benny Leonard and Jack Britton when the latter won on a foul in the 13th round. Some sport experts dwelt on the action of the lightweight champion, an experienced, cool headed fighter, in stnking Britton while the welter- weight was on one knee claiming a PICKETT, MURPHY 1S GIVEN BOUT ON FOUL Although the decision far from met the favor of the majority of the fans. the refereg in the “Dude™ Gilmore. “Kid” Pickett fight at Yoder called the battle a draw.
