I like Colonel Hatfield and you will ike him too when you meet him. He is so thoroughly human—just another one of the common clay who does not aspire to the “high-brow” method of living. He is content to “live by the side of the road. His life has been interesting, yet fraught with danger. He knows war, having fought with the Cubans when they threw off the Spanish yoke. He was one of seven men to be sentenced to death in Mexico City, when the American Marines were in Vera Cruz. Through political influence, he was able to escape death, yet his enor- mous fortune, which he amassed in the nine years in Mexico was confis- cated by the government. This will probably be returned when the Mexi- can affairs are settled. For five years Colonel Hatfield has studied Texas, he has covered the state from side to side, corner to corner, by foot. He ts a man of tremendous strength: and endurance. Mr. Hatfield, with all his geological knowledge and practical experience, says that he believes Texas oil fields offer the greatest possibilities yet to be discovered. To back his judgment he has bought vast acreages through: out the oll section. Tis company is organized on such an unique plan that it is sure to bring satisfying results. Col.
