PAGE World Results IN NATIONAL Brennan, O’Day and Emslie Involved in Changes Pro- jected by Heydler. CHICAGO, Dec. $1.—Baseball deals fuvolving players are no more exten- sive this winter than the shakeup of umptres in the National leagué, which involves Bill Brennan, Hank O'Day and-Bob Emstie, and perhaps others, necording to reports current here. It js understood President Heydler plans an extensive revision of his staff. Brennan already has been trans ferred to the Southerh association, O'Day 1s pressing for his release so he can sign up with the Pacific Coast league, and Emsiie, it ts understood, is about to be retired on a pension after nearly 26 years of faithful service. “Ducky” Holmes ot the Western league, Paul Sentelie of ‘te Texas Jeague and Pfirman of Southern as sociation have been added to the Na © roster. le opposition to Brennan had developed around the National cireult. O’Day’s retirement from the majors is due to his desire to live in the west. Emslie ts to be replaced by a young man and rewarded for his Jong service, according to the stories here. O'Day has had a remarkable career tm the majors. Starting as a pitcher fm the days when Connie Mack was Rhackstopping, he switched to umpiring more than 25 years ago, but in 1912 vas persuaded to take the helm of the Cincinnat! Reds. O’Day brought them out of the last division into fourth place, but gave up the post | after one year. He ts said to have t ont the foul strike rule now fm force fn the majors and is regarded as one of the most diplomatic arbitra- tors in the game. —— DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS IN “THREE MUSKETEERS” | I$ REAL TRIUMPH | Production Achieves Highest Plico in Realms of Motion Picture Production. | Again Douglas Fairbanks has tri-) umphed. In his latest film, “The Three Musketeers,” which opened yes terday at the Iris theater for a four- day engagement, Mr. Fairbanks | proved that he is every inch an actor. ‘This new United Artists’ offering without question one of the greatest pictures ever shown. For photograph- fo beauty, marvelous costuming and stupendous settings, there have prob- ably been few pictures to equal it and none that excels it. ‘As a story of real Grama and as tounding intrigue, with mirth provok- ing moments, “The Three Musketeers” achieves a place decidedly its own. Based on Alexander Dumas’ world-fa- mous novel which deals with the his tory of France in the early Seven- teenth Century, the photoplay em- bedies all of the romantic adventure injected into that stirring tale by the celebrated French author, and it also accentuates the high points, stamp- ing them with an indelible imprint on the memory. All of the characters in this photo- play are admirably chosen. Nigel de Brulier as the cunning cardinal gives a marvelous characterization; Louts Menjou is the most majestic cort of a king; Mary MacLaren as Queen Anne of Austria rules with queenly mein and at the same time gndowe the part with a wealth of humansess. As Con stance, the little court seamstress who loves D'Artagnan and worships her queen, Marguerite De La Motte's de lineation is superb. Milady, played by Barbara LaMarr, is beautiful enough to upset any monarchy, and almost Salesmanship Will Be Taught ina Night Class Opened January 3, 1922. Conch Steve Farrell faces a hard job in moulding a team out of these few men, having lost such stellar per formers as Butler, Wetzel, Forbes and Westbrook. The strength of the team ippears to be in the Gashes, with Captain Simmons, Burk, who placed last year in the Cornell meet, and Weeks, Da vis, Martin and Siemens, all from last year’s Freshman squad.
