A rising Christmas spirit comes with the falling of the! snowflakes and temperature, so observes the shopper, who} finds the stores crowded with shoppers who do not wait for the last minute to do their choosing and buying. And the shopper also found that the Christmas purchases were not comfined to dry goods and furnishing stores. Grocery companies are finding their number among the buyers, too, for during the uletide seagon, that baskets of fruits, candies, California sweets, fruits and nuts, dates and figs. Special orders for the pretty wicker baskets to be filled with small bottles of bar. le-duc with bottles of marischino cher ries, of cider, with packages of figs. dates and raisins, and a splendid as- sortment of rosy-cheeked apples, special oranges, tangerines, bananas, and even grape fruits are being re- ceived and many tables will be graced with the baskets of plenty and of or. nament. There is a cheery atmos. phere about a basket ladened with fruits and nuts that suggests bounty and @ wealth of ngture that ts appre ciated by every Housewife, and no table decoration even of the most cul tivated flowers can take the place of a fruit centerpiece. Now, to skip back to personal adorn ment. The Shopper has found many articles of beauty at Winter Hen thorne, jewelers. Articles which ex press their beauty through the use of precious stones, set in striking sim- plictty. Now-a-days, it is found that the setting {s at least half of the art of jewelry and the dinner rings with the clear, sparkling diamonds set in the basket mountings make tho pos- sessor envied among women. And It is found that each ring is individual in setting and stones. This is an ad- def attraction, for every person has, of course, a personal taste and indi- viduality to be sufted in the selection of jewels as well as of clothing. An- other articles of useful jewelery which would necessarily take the eye, was the krife edge bar pin set with a single white diamond. Marvelous! White gold, green gold, platinum are’ all found moulded into shapes and designs of beauty to fit with the precious stones held. Whoever heard of a Christmas with. out flowers!
